[2]Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships, Trapper (ACM-9) [nhhc_danfs]
- Locator
- Opening specification block and service narrative
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- DANFS identifies Trapper (ACM-9) as built for the U.S. Army as Maj. Gen. Arthur Murray at Point Pleasant, West Virginia, by Marietta Manufacturing Co.; acquired by the Navy on 1945-01-02, converted at Navy Yard Charleston, and commissioned on 1945-03-15. It gives specifications of 1,320 tons, 188 feet 2 inches length, 37 feet beam, 12 feet 6 inches draft, 12.5 knots, and complement 69; class Chimo. It states that Trapper was decommissioned and transferred to the Coast Guard on 1946-06-20, then served with the Coast Guard until early 1959 as Yamacraw (WARC-333); reacquired by the Navy on 1959-04-17 and commissioned at New York on 1959-04-30 as Yamacraw (ARC-5), a cable repair ship. It was decommissioned, transferred to permanent Maritime Administration custody, and struck from the Navy list on 1965-07-02.

- Limitations
- Supports ship identity, specifications, and chronology only; it makes no asbestos claim. The separate DANFS Yamacraw entry says transfer to the Coast Guard occurred in 1948, while this Trapper entry and the USCG history give 1946; chronology is therefore based on the more detailed 1946 account, with the discrepancy disclosed in gaps. Subsequent disposal is not established here.

[3]Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships, Yamacraw [nhhc_danfs]
- Locator
- DANFS Yamacraw narrative
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The separate DANFS Yamacraw entry identifies the Coast Guard cable ship as WARC-333 and former Navy minelayer Trapper (ACM-9). It states Trapper was transferred to the Coast Guard in 1948 and that the ship returned to the Navy in 1959 as Yamacraw (ARC-5).

- Study period
- 1946-1959
- Limitations
- The transfer year conflicts with the more detailed DANFS Trapper entry and the Coast Guard history, both of which give the transfer date as 1946-06-20. This short entry does not resolve the discrepancy. Direct NHHC fetching returned 502/timeout during this session; its text was returned by official-site search.

- Heading and history narrative
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The Coast Guard history identifies USCGC Yamacraw as WARC-333 and as ex-USS Trapper (ACM-9), formerly Maj. Gen. Arthur Murray. It says Trapper was commissioned on 1945-03-15, transferred to the Coast Guard on 1946-06-20, served as Yamacraw until early 1959, was reacquired by the Navy on 1959-04-17, commissioned as USS Yamacraw (ARC-5) on 1959-04-30, and transferred to the Maritime Administration on 1965-07-02.

- Official Coast Guard history; it supports identity and service chronology, not asbestos presence or absence. The page is readable through the web research interface, but direct automated curl returned HTTP 403 on 2026-10-04.

- Limitations
- The index confirms month/year chronology but does not itself identify exact days, Coast Guard service dates, asbestos conditions, or post-1965 disposition. Exact dates are taken from the Coast Guard and DANFS histories.

[6]DANFS Trapper (ACM-9), reviewed for asbestos documentation; see also USCG Historian's Office history and NARA deck-log index cited above [nhhc_danfs]
- Locator
- DANFS service narrative; Coast Guard history; NARA index entry
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, or other asbestos statement was located in the reviewed official vessel-history sources. This is a bounded negative result about those sources, not proof that asbestos was absent from the hull. The CourtListener case sweep is incomplete and does not support a no-litigation conclusion.

- Limitations
- The reviewed histories are narrative histories, not hazmat surveys. Firecrawl search was unavailable due keyless quota exhaustion. CourtListener's authenticated helper stopped at the fleet-wide pacing limiter before completing even its first request; no case-result conclusion is drawn. No asbestos product or exposure is inferred from class, construction date, or steam systems.
