- Finding
- DANFS 'Acme I (AMc-61)': laid down while still unnamed 1941-03-31 by the Greenport Basin & Construction Co., Greenport, NY; named Adamant 1941-05-17; renamed Acme 1941-05-23; launched 1941-05-31 (sponsored by Mrs. John Q. Adams); commissioned 1941-09-11, Lt. Marcus L. Whitford in command. Assigned Atlantic Fleet; minesweeping operations out of Yorktown, VA through mid-November 1941; arrived New London, CT 1941-11-23 for minesweeping/patrol duty. Restricted availability, Boston Navy Yard, 1942-02-02 to 1942-02-23. Decommissioned and placed in service 1942-03-08 at New London; operated New England/New York coastal waters through the end of the war in Europe. Proceeded to Charleston, SC in June 1945 (arrived 28th). Placed out of service 1945-12-13, laid up in the Wando River; declared not essential to the defense of the United States and slated for disposal six days later. Struck from the Navy list 1946-01-03. - U.S. Navy crew, Atlantic Fleet/district minesweeping duty (1941-1945)
- Limitations
- Official identity and service-history record only. Contains no mention of asbestos, hull construction material, or engine type for this hull, and establishes no exposure information whatsoever. Post-1947 fate is explicitly described by DANFS itself as not further documented.

- Finding
- Name-collision correction, verified against DANFS's own numbering convention: this hull (AMc-61) held the name 'Adamant' only from 1941-05-17 to 1941-05-23, before renaming to 'Acme' and commissioning under that name; DANFS files this hull as 'Acme I (AMc-61)'. A wholly separate, later hull - USS Acme (MSO-508), an ocean minesweeper laid down 1954-11-16, commissioned 1956-09-27 - is filed by DANFS as 'Acme II (MSO-508)', confirming via DANFS's own I/II sequence that these are two distinct, non-duplicate hulls sharing only a reused name. The task's PRIMARY-stage note flagging a same-name collision at a 'AM-508 (tier 2)' record is confirmed as this MSO-508 hull (the correct hull-number prefix is MSO, an ocean minesweeper designation, not AM); it is independently verified here as a different hull, not a duplicate.

- Limitations
- Confirms non-duplication between AMc-61 and MSO-508 only. Does not address the separate, permanently-named USS Adamant (AMc-62, ex-Advance) - a third hull sharing only the transient former name with AMc-61. A stable DANFS URL for AMc-62's own entry could not be located during this research pass (repeated slug guesses returned HTTP 404; consistent with the NHHC link-rot issue documented in BATCH-01), so AMc-62's details are not cited as a source here and are carried only in gaps, sourced to non-primary search summaries that could not be independently verified against the primary document.

[3]Naval History and Heritage Command, DANFS, "Endurance I (AMc-77)" [nhhc_danfs]
- Locator
- Article paragraphs 1-3
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- DANFS describes a different 1941-program coastal minesweeper hull, AMc-77 ("Endurance"), as "the unnamed wooden-hulled coastal minesweeper AMc 77" and separately records an emergency repair to "damaged hull planking" - confirming wooden-hull construction for that hull.

- Limitations
- AMc-77 Endurance is DANFS-designated a different type class ("cl. Acme" per its own header) than this vessel's class ("cl. Accentor" per the AMc-61 header) - both are small wood-era coastal minesweepers from the same 1941 building program, but this is adjacent-program context, not a same-class or same-hull record. Does not establish hull material for AMc-61 itself, its own Accentor class, or any asbestos content, and does not mention asbestos in any form.

[4]Batch-1598 search ledger (this record): CourtListener API v4 opinion and docket/RECAP searches (exact name + hull number, plus asbestos-qualified variants); NARA online catalog; NHHC DANFS (this hull and collision/sister hulls); EPA/OSHA/GAO web search [other_primary]

- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos documentation and no qualifying asbestos litigation naming this vessel (by name 'Acme'/'Adamant' or by hull number 'AMc-61') was located in the sources searched. CourtListener API v4 searches (opinion and docket/RECAP collections) for "USS Acme AMc-61" returned only unrelated name-collision noise - e.g., an unrelated Texas state criminal appeal and unrelated federal commercial, securities, and bankruptcy dockets - none referencing this ship, its hull number, or any Navy asbestos matter. No NARA deck-log/muster catalog record, no museum or preservation-authority record (the hull has no museum or historic-designation status), and no EPA/OSHA/GAO document specific to this hull or its class was found.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard this vessel during its 1941-1945 service - it establishes only that no such record surfaced in the sources searched during this research pass. Several planned CourtListener query variants (asbestos-qualified opinion/docket searches) were blocked mid-session by the fleet-wide shared rate limiter and not completed; this is logged honestly as incomplete coverage rather than retried into a ban (see search_ledger). Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
