- Limitations
- Authoritative for government custody milestones and design type; contains no asbestos, materials, or condition-survey information and supports no asbestos claim. The record's 'Historical Narrative' field is empty; status-card scans are images (not text-reviewed in this pass). NavSource (unofficial) describes PD-X-1000 as a seven-vessel sale; the MARAD milestone table itself itemizes only this hull.

- Finding
- The official Navy Department Ships' Histories Section typescript for this hull independently corroborates the WWII narrative: built by the 'Cargill Shipbuilding Corporation' at Savage, Minnesota; commissioned 1943-12-18 at New Orleans with Lt. John W. Foster, USNR, in command; sponsor Mrs. G. F. Jacobs (wife of the Inspector of Naval Material, Northern Pump Company, Minneapolis); named for the Agawam River in Massachusetts. Describes 25 months of 1944-45 fuel-line operations across the Solomons, Admiralties, New Guinea, Philippines, Okinawa, Japan, and China; Tulagi operating base for ten months; routine runs to Guadalcanal, Rendova, Vella Lavella, Bougainville, Treasury, Green, Emirau, and Munda; five submarine contacts without attack; 27-day Espiritu Santo availability September 1944; detached 1945-01-29 to Lingayen Gulf; Army loan from 1945-04-01.

- Wartime crew (operating history only)
- Limitations
- Primary official-history corroboration; the surviving scan's Agawam section truncates mid-narrative at the Army-loan paragraph (OCR text ends 'for the support of the Army land-based forces in various area'). Contains no asbestos, insulation, or materials information and supports no asbestos claim. OCR contains transcription errors; dates cross-checked against DANFS (minor variance: 'detached 29 January' vs DANFS '28 January').

- Finding
- Peer-reviewed historical study documents that asbestos was used extensively as a fireproofing and insulating material in U.S. shipbuilding during WWII - the era and program under which this Maritime Commission T1-MT-M1 tanker hull was built (1942-43) at Cargill's Savage, Minnesota yard. Combined with the T1-MT-M1 type's diesel-electric plant (no main boilers), era-consistent asbestos applications for this vessel type would center on exhaust/muffler lagging, piping and machinery gaskets, pump and valve packing, accommodation-space insulation and fireproofing, and brake linings on cargo/winching gear.

- WWII shipyard workers and ship crews (class context); Cargill Savage-yard construction workforce (inferred)
- Limitations
- Program/era-level scholarly documentation of asbestos use in WWII shipbuilding generally; neither the study nor the MARAD type designation names this vessel or establishes that asbestos was or remains aboard this hull, nor quantity, location, condition, individual exposure, or causation. The diesel-electric machinery particulars rest on unofficial compilations (NavSource spec sheet), not an official spec in hand - see gaps.

- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement or removal contract, hazmat disclosure, donation-condition condition report, or docketed asbestos case naming USS Agawam or hull AOG-6 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). CourtListener returned zero opinions for 'USS Agawam' and zero for 'AOG-6'; broad 'Agawam' hits (924 opinions; 1,059 dockets) are name collisions on the Massachusetts town and unrelated litigants - none vessel-related; an 'Agawam' + asbestos opinion search returned 4 hits, all municipal/patent/tax matters unrelated to the ship.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - era-built auxiliaries were routinely scrapped without surveys that reached the public record. Does not establish that asbestos is or is not present; does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
