    Finding
DANFS record for this hull: the fourth ALBANY (CA-123), Oregon City class, laid down 6 March 1944 at Quincy, Mass., by the Bethlehem Steel Co.; launched 30 June 1945; sponsored by Mrs. Elizabeth F. Pinckney; commissioned 15 June 1946 at the Boston Navy Yard, Capt. Harold A. Carlisle in command. Shakedown Casco Bay; east-coast/West Indies operations and reservist/NROTC training; five 6th Fleet Mediterranean deployments alternating with east-coast duty and three South American cruises (carried the U.S. representative to the Brazilian presidential inauguration January 1951). Placed out of commission at the Boston Naval Shipyard 30 June 1958 to begin conversion to a guided missile cruiser; redesignated CG-10 on 1 November 1958; 'the warship spent the next four years at Boston undergoing very extensive modifications'; recommissioned at Boston 3 November 1962; alternated Mediterranean/North Atlantic deployments with east-coast and West Indies operations for almost five years; decommissioned at Boston Naval Shipyard 1 March 1967 for further extensive modifications; recommissioned at Boston 9 November 1968, Capt. Robert C. Peniston in command (transcription ends here).

    Limitations
DANFS documents service history and specifications, not materials or asbestos content. The HazeGray/LostHistory transcription is truncated mid-entry at the November 1968 recommissioning - the printed Vol. A entry continues through the 1980 decommissioning and disposal; post-1968 events here rest on secondary sources (ev-02). Mirror cited because the live NHHC page returns 404.

    Finding
Secondary continuation of the DANFS record (the DANFS transcription is truncated at 1968): decommissioned in 1973 for overhaul at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard; recommissioned May 1974 and homeported at Norfolk; flagship of the 2nd Fleet; flagship of the 6th Fleet homeported at Gaeta, Italy, 1976-1980; decommissioned 29 August 1980 and laid up on the Elizabeth River across from the Norfolk Navy Yard; stricken from the Naval Vessel Register 30 June 1985; held five years pending a possible museum donation to her namesake city that was never realized; sold for scrapping 12 August 1990. A section of her bow survives at the Albany County Fairgrounds, Altamont, N.Y.

    Limitations
Secondary compiled reference, not a primary record - the post-1968 dates and disposal narrative are carried as partially verified pending a primary source (NVR is login-gated; NHHC DANFS page 404; DANFS transcription truncated). The 1973-74 Philadelphia Naval Shipyard overhaul is a further documented yard period whose insulation scope is not public.

    Finding
Published federal opinion recites that plaintiff Charles Corley alleged continuous exposure to asbestos-containing products during 1946-1973 employment 'as a boiler room technician and ship-wide maintenance worker' in the U.S. Navy aboard a listed dozen vessels including 'USS Albany'; mesothelioma diagnosed 27 February 2009. CA-123/CG-10 is the only commissioned USS Albany within the alleged 1946-73 service window, so the reference resolves to this hull. QUALIFYING asbestos litigation naming this hull - at pleading stage: the opinion adjudicates only removal jurisdiction (federal enclave), not exposure; the 2020 Eleventh Circuit appeal addressed dismissal procedure, leaving the exposure allegations unadjudicated.

    Population
    Navy boiler-room technician / ship-wide maintenance worker, 1946-1973; mesothelioma
    Limitations
Pleading-stage allegation recited in a jurisdictional opinion - classified down per litigation-stage discipline; the court made no finding that asbestos products were aboard Albany or that Corley was exposed aboard her. The multi-vessel list is undifferentiated (no dates, scope, or products specific to Albany). Does not quantify material, does not establish causation, and says nothing about present-day conditions or legal eligibility.

    Finding
Era inference: Oregon City-class construction (Baltimore-type plant - 4 boilers, 4 geared steam turbines, ~120,000 shp) at Bethlehem/Fore River in 1944-46 falls squarely in the documented Navy asbestos-insulation era; the 1960 BuShips Technical Manual insulation chapter enumerates the era-standard suite - 85%-magnesia and amosite pipe covering, asbestos felt, chrysotile cloth/tape lagging, asbestos millboard, finishing cement, molded block. Documented disturbance periods for this hull: the 1958-62 Boston Naval Shipyard CG-10 conversion ('very extensive modifications' per DANFS - a program-standard gut-and-rebuild above the main deck), the 1967-68 Boston modification period, and the 1973-74 Philadelphia Naval Shipyard overhaul (secondary).

    Limitations
Class/era specification and yard-period inference only - the ship-specific evidence for this hull is the Corley pleading-stage row (ev-03); this row must not be read as establishing that asbestos products were or remain aboard. The conversion's insulation-removal scope is undocumented in public sources; does not quantify material.

    Finding
No additional qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located beyond the Corley pleading-stage row: no hull ACM survey, abatement contract, scrapping hazmat disclosure, or museum record with asbestos data was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). CourtListener API search was throttled (HTTP 429, 125/day shared quota) on 2026-09-18; web-indexed CourtListener material located no other qualifying case naming this hull.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - it establishes only that no qualifying ship-specific documentation was found in the searched repositories. State-court and unindexed matters are outside coverage; the fresh per-ship CourtListener queries remain a deferred open item (API 429). Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
