  1. [1]CourtListener API v4 (opinions, RECAP documents, and docket search) - queries for "AMCU-4", "AMCU 4", "LCT(6)-888", "LCT-888", "LCT 888", and "C-104714", including asbestos-combined variants [court_record]

    Finding type
    litigation_documented
    Finding
No qualifying asbestos or other litigation, docket, or opinion was located under any consolidated designation for this hull (AMCU-4, LCT(6)-888, or C-104714) across CourtListener's opinion index, RECAP document index, or docket search.

    Limitations
Absence of a located record does not prove absence of exposure or of any claim; it establishes only that no matching record exists in CourtListener's indexed holdings as searched on 2026-09-24. Confirms the batch brief's own primary all-tier check, which reported no matching hull among the researched designations and names.

    Finding
NARA's guide confirms that Bureau of Ships (RG 19) General, Confidential, and Secret correspondence (1940-1961), filed by ship hull or class designation, and Board of Inspection and Survey material-inspection reports (RG 38) are the primary record series through which Navy asbestos specification and installation records would be located; specification numbers must first be identified via Bureau of Ships correspondence, then searched by hull/class.

    1940-1961 (records series coverage)
    Limitations
This is a finding aid describing where such records reside, not a finding about this hull or its class - it says nothing about AMCU-4, LCT(6) hulls, or any small craft specifically. The underlying RG 19/RG 38 records themselves were not examined in this session. Does not establish asbestos presence, absence, quantity, or class-typical application for this hull.

  3. [3]Batch consolidation research (this batch's pre-research all-tier hull check) plus a third-party naval-history hull compilation (NavSource-style AMCU photo-index page, http://www.navsource.org/archives/11/0404.htm) that this session's network could not reach directly [other_primary]

    Finding
Reported identity/service chain: LCT(6)-888 placed in service 1944-06-30; reclassified Coastal Minesweeper (Underwater Locator) AMCU-4 on 1945-03-10; reclassified Small Boat C-104714 in January 1946. Reported specifications: displacement ~143 tons, length 119'1", beam 32'8", draft 3'9", speed 10 kn, complement ~21, three 675 bhp Gray Marine 6-71 diesel engines on three shafts. A single further, weaker report states 1950 civilian registration as the freight lighter Bumpy (homeport Hartford, CT; owner Gifford Dyer Warner, Essex, CT); fate thereafter reported unknown.

    1944-1950 (reported)
    Limitations
Unverified: the compiling source could not be directly accessed in this session (network egress policy rejected navsource.org), so its own sourcing could not be checked, and no primary Navy record (NHHC/DANFS, Naval Vessel Register, NARA Ships' Data NAVSHIPS 250-012 Vol. III) was independently reached to confirm any date, spec, or the civilian-conversion claim. Carried as reported and flagged unverified, not as an established fact. Establishes no asbestos information whatsoever.
