DANFS transcription, specification block and service narrative

    vessel_history
    Finding
The DANFS transcription states that Anacot was laid down on 18 April 1944 by Greenport Basin & Construction Co. at Long Island, New York; launched 24 March 1945; and placed in Navy service on 15 June 1945 at New York Navy Yard, Brooklyn. It states that she arrived at Pearl Harbor on 28 September 1945, was assigned fireboat duties under the 14th Naval District in 1947, remained active there through October 1958, and was then placed in reserve out of service. Its specification block gives 410 tons displacement, 110 feet length, 27 feet beam, 11 feet 4 inches draft, 12 knots, complement 14, and Cahto class.

    Limitations
HistoryCentral reproduces DANFS but is not the Navy's official hosting site. The transcription contains an apparent corrupt phrase in the service narrative ('ordered to report to Commander, eight months'); that passage is excluded. No asbestos or material content is described. A direct NHHC photography page identifying Anacot in a photograph was found in search results, but the page timed out when opened and is not used as evidence.

Anacot (YTB-253) row in the named-vessels table

    historical_record
    Finding
NARA's index lists Anacot (YTB-253) deck-log coverage from 16 June 1945 through 25 November 1945. This independently confirms the vessel designation and establishes the indexed period of available logs.

    Study period
    1945-06-16 to 1945-11-25 (indexed deck-log coverage)
    Limitations
This is an index to logbooks, not the log contents; it does not establish the ship's service commencement date. The one-day difference from the DANFS placed-in-service date may reflect log coverage beginning the following day; the dates are not treated as contradictory service dates.
