- DANFS entry: specifications paragraph; construction, reserve, naming, striking, and final-disposition paragraphs
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- NHHC's DANFS entry identifies this hull as PC-1173, a PC-461-class submarine chaser: laid down 21 April 1943 at Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, by Leathem D. Smith Shipbuilding Co.; launched 26 June 1943; commissioned at New Orleans 1 November 1943; decommissioned at Green Cove Springs, Florida, in March 1946; named Andalusia 15 February 1956; and struck 1 July 1960. The entry gives a complement of 65 and records her sinking as a target by aircraft from USS America (CVA-66) on 23 November 1965, about 200 miles east of Cape Charles, Virginia. It records one World War II battle star.

- Crew (DANFS complement 65); construction and service-era personnel
- Limitations
- This is a vessel-history record, not an asbestos survey, material list, or exposure finding. The direct NHHC URL returned HTTP 404 when rechecked on 2026-10-03; the contents were verified through the live indexed NHHC result, and the access failure is logged. No asbestos conclusion is drawn from construction date, class, or service history.

[3]U.S. Government Accountability Office, Navy Efforts To Protect Workers From Asbestos Exposure, HRD-80-2 (1979-10-18) [gao]

- GAO product-page Highlights; HRD-80-2
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- GAO's Navy-wide 1979 review documents asbestos use in Navy ships and Navy shipyard asbestos-control and removal practices. It describes the Navy's 1975 policy of replacing asbestos insulation only when damaged or removed for repairs, revised in 1979 to selectively replace insulation in high-maintenance areas. This is class/era context for a World War II Navy patrol craft, not a finding that PC-1173 carried asbestos.

- Population
- Navy shipyard workers and Navy vessels reviewed by GAO, not identified Andalusia personnel
- Limitations
- Program-level documentation only: Andalusia/PC-1173 is not named, and the report does not establish asbestos aboard this hull, any product identity, quantity, location, worker exposure, or present condition. The GAO page was verified through live indexed content; direct automated fetch returned HTTP 403.

- Special List 44, PC-1173 entry
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- NARA's Special List 44 indexes PC-1173 deck logs for 1 November 1943 through 30 June 1945. These records are a hull-specific archival lead for operating, maintenance, repair, and personnel documentation.

- Population
- PC-1173 crew, 1943-1945
- Limitations
- The list establishes an archival record path, not the contents of individual logs. No deck-log volume or maintenance attachment was retrieved, and this row makes no asbestos finding.

[5]Batch-7670 search ledger: NHHC DANFS; NARA deck-log index; GAO; NAVSEA inactive-ship history; NavSource as corroborative lead; authenticated CourtListener helper; Firecrawl [other_primary]
- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-uss-andalusia-pc1173-01 through -07
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, hazmat disclosure, material inventory, or authoritative litigation record was located in the accessible sources searched. The required CourtListener exact-name and hull-number searches were not completed: before the first request, the authenticated fleet helper reported the daily quota exhausted and a 11,222-second (about 3.1-hour) wait. Firecrawl searches were also unavailable because its keyless quota was exhausted.

- Limitations
- This is a limited negative finding, not proof that asbestos was absent or that no litigation exists. CourtListener is an unresolved access gap, not a no-result. The direct-access failures and fallback sources are detailed in search_ledger and the batch report; no marketing or law-firm claims were used.
