    Locator
Historical paragraph identifying the first Apalachicola (YTB 767)
    Finding type
    vessel_history
    Finding
The prior World War II era label is corrected to Cold War: the Navy dates this particular YTB-767 tug's launch to 1963 and striking to 2002.

    Limitations
Corrects the era for this distinct tug only. It does not transfer any history or material evidence from the later USNS Apalachicola (T-EPF-13) mentioned in the same release, and says nothing about asbestos.

    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
A 1979 Navy letter reproduced by GAO says Navy ships in service then contained some asbestos. Its attached table identifies asbestos thermal insulation in large harbor tugs YTB-817 through YTB-831 delivered in 1973-74; YTB-832 and later listed tugs are shown with asbestos-free thermal insulation. The table does not list YTB-767.

    Population
Navy ships and naval shipyard workers generally
    Limitations
The listed YTB-817-and-later vessels are different hulls built roughly a decade after YTB-767. The Navy's fleet-wide wording cannot be converted into a ship-specific material finding for Apalachicola. The table provides no quantity, location, condition, maintenance event, or exposure evidence for YTB-767.

    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
NAVSEA's asbestos reading-room index lists a qualified-products record for asbestos-fiber thermal insulation felt dated 1962 and metallic-asbestos spiral-wound boiler gaskets dated 1961-74. These show Navy material specifications current near the tug's launch period, without identifying YTB-767 or its fittings.

    Limitations

    Finding
No publicly accessible ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, or material specification naming YTB-767 was located in the official sources searched for this batch. Authenticated CourtListener exact-name and hull-number opinion and docket searches returned no results.

The negative finding is bounded by the listed public sources. NARA drawings were indexed but not retrieved. No results in the four CourtListener searches do not prove that no case exists outside its searchable records, nor that asbestos was absent.

    Finding type
    vessel_history
    Finding
The Navy identifies Apalachicola (YTB 767) as a Natick-class large harbor tug launched in 1963. It says the tug spent most of its service providing harbor services to ships in the Puget Sound area and was stricken from the Navy List in 2002.

    Limitations
The Navy gives only launch and striking years here, not exact dates, builder, delivery, in-service date, complement, propulsion, or sale. It contains no asbestos finding and does not establish exposure for any person.
