[2]Naval History and Heritage Command, DANFS, ‘Aramis (S.P. 418)’ [nhhc_danfs]
- Locator
- DANFS specification block; acquisition/commissioning paragraph; final three paragraphs beginning ‘Early the following year’ and ‘Towed by the fleet tug’.
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- NHHC DANFS identifies Aramis as a steel-hulled twin-screw diesel yacht completed in 1916 at City Island, New York, by Robert Jacob; the Navy acquired her 1917-07-03, commissioned her as SP-418 on 1917-11-02, classified her PY-7 on 1920-07-17, and decommissioned her on 1921-10-06. It further records late-1924 redesignation as District Craft, Unclassified; nine years of operation as tender and houseboat to Nokomis during Cuban survey work; stripping at Guantanamo Bay by mid-July 1933; striking on 1933-07-20; and sale on 1933-11-13.

- Authoritative for identity and chronology, including the otherwise-in-service tender/houseboat period. It does not identify asbestos, insulation composition, products, quantity, condition, individual exposure, or causation.

[3]NHHC DANFS ‘Aramis (S.P. 418)’; National Archives asbestos-research guidance; Batch-8706 search ledger in this record [other_primary]
- Locator
- search_ledger sl-uss-aramis-sp418-01 through sl-uss-aramis-sp418-04
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos documentation was located in the authoritative vessel-history and archival-discovery sources searched: no public asbestos survey, abatement record, material specification, or hazmat disclosure naming Aramis / SP-418 / PY-7 was found. The CourtListener litigation sweep is not a negative result: its first mandated base request was blocked by the fleet-wide pacing limiter before completion, so no CourtListener query result is asserted.

- Limitations
- A failed public-record search does not prove absence of asbestos. NARA’s guidance is a research route, not a hull finding; its generic holdings description does not establish what records survive for this vessel. CourtListener results remain unknown because the authenticated helper stopped at shared pacing before the first request reached the API.

[4]National Archives, ‘Records of the Bureau of Ships’ (RG 19) and ‘Researching Asbestos aboard US Naval Vessel up through 1961’ [other_primary]
- Locator
- RG 19 sections 19.3.5, 19.3.6, and 19.4; NARA asbestos guidance at https://www.archives.gov/research/military/navy/guided-topics/asbestos
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- NARA identifies records of the Bureau of Construction and Repair and Bureau of Engineering within RG 19, including vessel specifications (1883-1917), specifications and related records (1914-39), and engineering records. NARA’s asbestos guidance directs researchers to ship engineering drawings but cautions that listed personnel collections provide no direct asbestos evidence. These are archival leads for any surviving Aramis specifications or drawings, not evidence that asbestos was used aboard the vessel.

- Limitations
- Record-group-level discovery guidance only. No box, folder, drawing, or specification for Aramis was retrieved or reviewed; survival and asbestos relevance of any hull material are unknown. This row is not a ship-specific asbestos finding.
