[2]NHHC, DANFS, Aroostook III (AOG-14) [nhhc_danfs]
- Locator
- Opening identity/acquisition paragraph, indexed NHHC extract
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- Aroostook III (AOG-14) originated as Esso Delivery No. 11 and was acquired by the Navy on 1 April 1943. It is a different hull and is excluded from this record’s aliases and exposure evidence.

[3]Department of Veterans Affairs, Veteran Exposure to Asbestos [other_primary]
- Locator
- Who’s at risk?
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- VA identifies Navy shipyard work during the 1930s–1990s and service on older ships as potential asbestos-exposure settings, and discusses damaged pipe lagging. This is general Navy-era background supporting the requested Tier 2 research category only.

- Limitations
- VA guidance does not name Aroostook or establish any installation, product, fiber type, condition, quantity, individual exposure, disease causation or legal eligibility aboard this hull. No ship-specific asbestos inference is made; Tier 2 is not an exposure finding.

[4]Codex, Batch 929 research/search ledger [other_primary]
- Locator
- search_ledger sl-01 through sl-12; uss-aroostook-ak44.research.md
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos materials record was located in the official historical text and public web searches logged for this batch. Ship-specific asbestos documentation remains unknown. The litigation sweep was not performed because CourtListener access was explicitly deferred.

- Limitations
- Bounded search outcome only, not proof of absence. Search-engine results are not comprehensive archive searches. No CourtListener request was made; no no-litigation conclusion is supported. No hull survey, specification, abatement record or asbestos litigation document was retrieved.

- Sections 19.3.1, 19.3.6, 19.4.1, 19.4.4; https://www.archives.gov/research/military/navy/guided-topics/asbestos (correspondence and cartographic guidance)
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- NARA RG 19 describes pre-1940 Construction and Repair correspondence, 1914–1939 specifications, Engineering correspondence for 1910–1940, and engineering-material contracts for 1904–1942. These are leads for the vessel’s conversion and repair periods. NARA’s asbestos research guide also points to hull-designation correspondence and S39 insulation/lagging drawings; the 1940s records may address the contemplated 1941 conversion.

- Limitations
- Series-level leads only; no vessel file, box, drawing or specification retrieved. The asbestos guide primarily concerns 1941–1961 and cannot by itself establish materials in the earlier commissioned-service period. Existence of responsive hull-specific material remains unverified.

[7]NHHC, DANFS, Aroostook II (Id. No. 1256) [nhhc_danfs]
- Locator
- Conversion paragraphs; April 1919; 1920 designation; 1928–1931 chronology; paragraph beginning Decommissioned
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- Aroostook was converted to a minelayer at Boston, served in North Sea mining operations in 1918, and underwent seaplane-support alterations at Norfolk in April 1919. CM-3 was assigned during the 1920 yard period. DANFS records subsequent aircraft-tender service, Mare Island overhauls including 1928, and active fleet aviation support in 1930. Decommissioned at Puget Sound Navy Yard on 10 March 1931; remained inactive for ten years. Reclassified AK-44 on 20 May 1941 for a contemplated cargo role, but found unsuitable. ID-1256, CM-3, AK-44 and the name-only USS Aroostook entry refer to this one hull; commissioned service through March 1931 establishes overlap with 1930–1986.

- Limitations
- NHHC text was available through the search service’s indexed full-page extract; direct live retrieval failed (curl HTTP 404; browser fetch error). Historical account, not a materials survey; establishes no asbestos presence or exposure. Yard work does not establish asbestos handling. AK-44 was an inactive reclassification, not evidence of renewed commissioned service. Name-only matches require the hull or chronology to resolve identity.
