    Limitations
DANFS documents service history and design figures, not materials or asbestos content. Mirror (Wayback) transcription cited because the live NHHC DANFS page returns 404. The RN commission is framed as 'transferred ... on 20 January 1943'; uboat.net carries 13 February 1943 for operational entry - conflict carried in gaps.

    Limitations
NavSource is a curated specialist archive, not a government record - used for contract-award date, sponsor, machinery detail, and photo-catalog credits that the DANFS text omits; every major milestone date it gives agrees with DANFS. Its complement figure (156) conflicts with the DANFS spec block (175) and is carried in gaps. No asbestos or materials information.

    Finding
Era/design inference: this hull is a Boston-built Evarts-class GMT-type escort - one of 78 US-built lend-lease Captain-class frigates (32 GMT/Evarts type, 46 TE/Buckley type; the GMT boats were essentially all Boston Navy Yard-built, with HMS Drury K.316 a documented exception in secondary compilations), and the first of the lend-lease destroyer escorts completed. The GMT plant is four GM/Winton 16-278A diesel engines with diesel-electric tandem drive - no boilers and no steam lines, so the boiler/fireroom lagging load of the steam-driven DE classes does not apply. Period-standard asbestos applications for a 1942-43 combatant of this type were nonetheless the normal suite: diesel exhaust and hot-pipe lagging, machinery and compartment insulation, flange gaskets and valve packing, electrical insulation, deck coverings, and fireproofing. The builder yard is documented at yard level in the Atlas dataset (Boston Naval Shipyard, tier 3, with a litigation-derived asbestos product identification). The hull's September-December 1943 Belfast repair period after the forward motor-room casualty is a documented machinery-disturbance event; insulation content of the disturbed/renewed material is not recorded.

    Limitations
Class/era and builder-yard inference only - no source names asbestos aboard this hull, and the GMT diesel-electric plant removes the steam-system insulation most associated with DE asbestos content. Does not establish presence, quantity, location, or any individual exposure; NARA RG 19 contract/material specifications and UK National Archives records are the open archival leads.

No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, material inventory, or preservation-era documentation naming DE-1, BDE-1, or K.310 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). The hull was scrapped in 1947 - predating asbestos regulation and surviving-record practices - so no post-1970s documentation channel exists.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - a 1942-43 combatant is era-consistent with asbestos insulation and fittings. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility for any person.

Six queries run; every hit classified a name or pattern collision: (1) 'Bayntun' opinions - 17 surname cases, 1799-1996, none maritime (Muller v. English, Charlton v. Gardner, Duke v. Asbee, Lee v. Waring, et al.); (2) 'Bayntun' dockets - 2 RECAP dockets matching inside document text, McKoy v. Trump Corp. (1:18-cv-09936 S.D.N.Y.) and NYT v. Microsoft (1:23-cv-11195 S.D.N.Y.), neither maritime nor asbestos; (3) 'USS Bayntun' opinions - 0 results; (4) 'BDE-1' opinions - 1 hit, a Puerto Rico banking appeal (string collision); (5) 'DE-1' + 'destroyer escort' opinions - 0 results; (6) 'HMS Bayntun' OR 'K.310' opinions - 32 hits, all screened page-1 results are 'K.310' criminal-docket-number collisions and unrelated vessel names.

Coverage is limited to CourtListener-indexed opinions and RECAP dockets - unindexed state trial-court filings, settled MDL-875 claimant records, and UK proceedings are outside the index. 'K.310' sweeps returned only page 1 of 32 low-relevance docket-number collisions; deeper pages were not pulled but the pattern is uniform. Absence of indexed litigation does not prove no claim was ever filed.
