    Finding
NavSource data block: laid down 12 August 1943 at Electric Boat Co., Groton; launched 21 May 1944; commissioned 23 September 1944. Decommissioned and transferred to Turkey 23 May 1948 as TCG Sakarya (S-332); struck from the US Naval Vessel Register (date varies - 28 May 1948 in NavSource block, 20 May 1948 in alternate records). Sakarya returned to US custody / disposed of after Turkish service - return/disposal dates conflict across sources (1973 return, 1975 decommission, or 1980 disposal variants).

NavSource is an authoritative non-government archive; data captured via search-result text (navsource.net unreachable by direct fetch - DNS resolution failure). Stricken date and Turkish end-of-service dates conflict across sources - carried in gaps. No asbestos content.

    Finding
Balao-class diesel-electric boats carried NO boilers or steam plant (BuShips 1945: DERD drive, four main diesel-generator engines - diesel maker Fairbanks-Morse or General Motors varying by hull block, electric motors Elliott or General Electric, ~5,400 hp, two shafts). Era-typical asbestos-relevant applications on the type: diesel exhaust lagging, engine gaskets and packing, acoustic and thermal hull insulation, insulation around galley and refrigeration equipment, and battery/electrical materials. The Electric Boat/Groton yard's asbestos product use in submarine construction of this era is independently documented at the yard level.

    Finding type

    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or adjudicated case naming USS Boarfish (SS-327) was found. CourtListener sweeps pending (rate-limited in this window - see search_ledger). Her early transfer to Turkey (1948) and foreign disposal leave no US abatement documentation chain.
