- Locator
- DANFS entry, service narrative paragraphs
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- Service narrative per DANFS: assigned to the Carrier Transport Squadron, Pacific Fleet, she ferried aircraft to the Marshalls, Admiralties, and Marianas in 1944, then shifted to underway-replenishment support for the fast-carrier task forces (TF 58/38) February-June 1945 - including TG 60.8 during Iwo Jima and Okinawa support periods. In September-October 1945 she supported occupation lifts from Okinawa to Chinese ports, followed by a San Diego yard period; placed out of commission in reserve at Tacoma 3 November 1946; redesignated CVU-100 (June 1955) and AKV-35 (7 May 1959). Two battle stars.

- Locator
- NavSource CVE-100 page header/service summary (archived capture)
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- NavSource Naval History's photo archive page for CVE-100 (retrieved via Internet Archive capture after live navsource.org DNS failed) confirms the DANFS-linked construction and service record and the ex-Didrickson Bay renaming 26 April 1944; secondary sources carry the scrapping sale as 29 August 1960 - a date DANFS and NHHC app.2 do not print. Carried as secondary in the record's current_location and flagged in gaps.

- Limitations
- NavSource is a volunteer-run photo archive, not an official source - used only for the renaming detail and as a disposal lead; the 29 Aug 1960 sale date could not be confirmed against an official record this session (live site unreachable; DANFS/app.2 silent).

[5]Batch-41 search ledger (this record): CourtListener exact-name + asbestos-term sweeps; class-profile sweep 2026-09-16 [other_primary]

- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- CourtListener sweeps for this hull could not be completed this session: both '"USS Bougainville" asbestos' and '"CVE-100" asbestos' type=o queries were throttled by the service's rate limiter (HTTP 202) and returned no data (2026-09-18). The 2026-09-16 class-profile member-name sweep covering all 50 Casablanca-class hulls located no asbestos opinion naming CVE-100.

- Limitations
- A null litigation result is not proof that no exposure claims exist - unindexed state-court and settled matters are invisible to opinion databases. Hull-number and bare-name sweeps were rate-limited; reported as a partial search outcome.

- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos record of any kind located for this hull: no insulation survey, no material schedule, no abatement contract, no dismantlement hazmat disclosure for the circa-1960 scrapping, and no qualifying published opinion naming CVE-100 in an asbestos claim was found in the sources searched.

[7]U.S. Navy, Bureau of Ships Technical Manual, NAVSHIPS 250-000, Chapter 39 'Thermal Insulation' (1960) - specification-level document; class construction and yard-period context per DANFS [other_primary]
- Locator

- Finding type

- Finding
- Class/era context: all 50 Casablanca-class escort carriers were mass-produced by Kaiser at Vancouver, WA, on Maritime Commission S4-S2-BB3 hulls with keels November 1942 - March 1944 - squarely inside the Navy's asbestos-specification era. The 1960 BuShips Technical Manual ch.39 'Thermal Insulation' enumerates the era insulation suite for steam plants of this type: MIL-P-2781 pipe covering incl. 85% magnesia ('about 15 percent asbestos fiber') and an amosite-asbestos class; roll asbestos felt MIL-I-15091; asbestos cloth/tape SS-C-466 (lagging); asbestos millboard HH-M-351; asbestos finishing cement; molded asbestos block for high-temperature service. This hull's 4 B&W boilers and Skinner Uniflow steam plant are the equipment classes those specifications cover; her San Diego yard period is a documented disturbance event.

- Population
- Construction trades (Kaiser Vancouver, 1944); wartime crew; San Diego yard workers (1945-46)
- Limitations
- Specification-level documentation of what the Navy specified, not a ship-specific installation record - does not confirm installed materials on this hull; yard-period insulation scope is era inference. Retrieved PDF is a litigation-repository scan of the government manual.
