- vessel_history
- Finding
- NHHC identifies the steel-hulled diesel-engined yacht Rose B., built in 1930 at Bay City, Michigan, by Defoe Boat and Motor Works; acquired by the Navy on 5 April 1942; renamed Brave (PYc-34) on 11 April 1942; redesignated YP-425 on 14 June 1942; placed in service at Norfolk on 30 December 1942; assigned to Service Squadron 1, Atlantic Fleet, on 29 September 1943; placed out of service on 28 November 1945; stricken on 8 May 1946; sold on 31 July 1946; and turned over to the Maritime Commission at Claremont, Virginia, on 1 August 1946. NHHC gives dimensions of 138 ft 11 in length, 18 ft beam, 6 ft draft, 194 tons displacement, and 16-knot speed, with one 3-inch gun, two 20-mm guns, and two depth-charge throwers.

- Population
- Navy personnel and shore/yard workers associated with the hull, 1942-1946
- Limitations
- DANFS documents identity, service, dimensions, and disposal, not asbestos content, crew complement, an asbestos inventory, or individual exposure. 'Placed in service' is not a commissioning date; this hull should not be represented as USS-commissioned.

[3]National Archives, Special List No. 44 by Ship Numbers, archival ship-log index [other_primary]
- Locator
- PDF table entry for YP-425
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- The National Archives ship-number list includes YP-425 with a 1 June 1944 to 23 November 1945 date span in its index table, corroborating that YP-425 was an active Navy district patrol craft during the late-war period covered by the list.

- Navy vessel-log coverage
- Limitations
- This is an archival index/list, not a narrative service record; its table dates do not replace the more specific NHHC dates for placement in service, out-of-service, strike, sale, or transfer. It contains no asbestos information.

[4]NHHC DANFS 'Brave' entry, identity distinction between YP-425 and IX-78 [other_primary]
- Locator
- NHHC DANFS Brave entry, YP-425 section and separate IX-78 section
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- NHHC presents two separate Brave histories: the PYc-34/YP-425 hull was the former yacht Rose B.; the simultaneously named Brave (IX-78) was the former Maitland Adams. This record covers only Rose B./Brave (PYc-34)/YP-425 and does not merge the IX-78 service history into it.

- Limitations
- The correction resolves the name collision only. It does not establish asbestos content or exposure for either vessel.

[5]Batch 8681 source review and litigation sweep ledger [other_primary]
- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-yp425-01 through sl-yp425-08
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos documentation was located in the authoritative sources reviewed: no asbestos survey, abatement record, hazmat disclosure, product-identification record, or qualifying litigation record was established for Rose B./Brave (PYc-34)/YP-425. The required four authenticated CourtListener base queries were initiated through the mandated helper, but the fleet-wide limiter reported its request budget spent before any query completed; therefore this is not a CourtListener no-result finding.

- 2026-10-04 research review
- Limitations
- A failure to locate a public record does not prove that asbestos was absent. The CourtListener component is an access/pacing gap, not a negative result; no asbestos-qualified variants were run because no base query completed and the prompt forbids blind variants. No exposure, causation, quantity, product identity, or legal eligibility conclusion follows.
