- DANFS entry for Camia: 'Former name retained. Camia (YFB-683) was a wooden working launch built at the Naval Station, Cavite, P.I. Launched on 15 November 1906, she was assigned to the 16th Naval District where she served from 1908 to 1942. Camia was lost on 2 January 1942 as Manila and Cavite succumbed to Japanese attacks, and was stricken from the Navy List on 24 July 1942.'

- Limitations
- NHHC canonical page is dead (404); the DANFS text is quoted via a verified live transcription mirror (hazegray/losthistory.net). The DANFS loss date of 2 January 1942 is contradicted by the 16th Naval District Operations Log quoted on NavSource (10 April 1942) - see correction row ev-uss-camia-yfb683-02. DANFS supplies no specifications, materials, crew figure, or asbestos content.

- NavSource Service Ship Photo Archive record for Camia (YFB-683): 681-class working launch/ferryboat built by Cavite Navy Yard, Cavite, Philippines; authorized July 1905; launched 15 November 1906; completed and placed in service as wooden Working Launch No. 683, January 1908; reclassified Yard Ferryboat (YFB-683) 17 July 1920; named Camia 1921; sunk by Japanese gunfire at South Dock, Corregidor, 10 April 1942; struck from the Naval Register 24 July 1942. NavSource footnote: 'Camia's DANFS entry is incorrect; 16th Naval District Operations Log records her loss on 10 April 1942: "0700 C.O. 680 boat CAMIA reported boat sank alongside South Dock."' Specifications displayed: displacement unknown; length 65'0"; beam 13'0"; draft 6'6"; speed unknown; complement unknown; armament none; propulsion one 150 horsepower engine. - Limitations
- NavSource is a volunteer archive transcribing official records; the decisive 10 April 1942 loss date rests on a quoted line from the 16th Naval District Operations Log, a NARA-held primary record not directly inspected this session. The awards block on this page carries a boilerplate artifact naming sister craft Santa Rita ('Santa Rita earned one battle star') - a battle star for Camia herself is not confirmed by any located award citation. The '680 boat' phrasing is quoted verbatim and unexplained. No asbestos or materials content.

- The official U.S. Navy World War II losses list (Appendix C of Admiral Ernest J. King's 'U.S. Navy at War, 1941-1945: Official Reports to the Secretary of the Navy,' 1946, pp. 287-306, NavSource transcription) records under Miscellaneous District Craft: 'CAMIA - Philippines - 1942' - listed consecutively with the other Philippine yard ferryboats lost in the same campaign: San Felipe, Santa Rita, Rosal, Camia, Dapdap, Rivera, Magdalena, Yacal.

- Limitations
- Official-source transcription; gives only year (1942) and theater (Philippines), so it cannot by itself resolve the 2 January vs 10 April 1942 loss-date conflict or the Cavite vs Corregidor location variants. The sister-craft grouping confirms the shared class loss pattern, not individual circumstances. No asbestos content.

- Finding
- The HyperWar transcription of 'Ships of the U.S. Navy, 1940-1945' (yard and district craft list compiled from official records) lists under YFB (ferry boats or launches): 'YFB-683 Camia - : at Corregidor' (the colon notation denotes lost), alongside YFB-684 Dap Dap and YFB-12 San Felipe with the same notation. The Navy Filing Manual (1941) lists 'YFB683 Camia' among district craft, confirming the official designation.

- Limitations
- Compilation-level record: confirms official designation and the Corregidor loss location, consistent with the 16th ND Operations Log quote, but supplies no date and no detail. Compilation itself warns that published details on individual yard craft are virtually nonexistent. No asbestos content.

- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, materials list, hazmat disclosure, or docketed asbestos case naming Camia or YFB-683 was found in the sources searched (see search_ledger). The Naval Vessel Register contains no record for this hull - NVR covers ships and service craft disposed of from 1987 onward; a craft stricken in 1942 is outside its coverage. The hull was sunk in 1942 and never raised or documented postwar.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - small marine engines of the 1906-08 era could carry asbestos-containing gaskets and packing. But for a 65-foot wooden launch sunk in 1942, no survey pathway exists. Does not establish or defeat any exposure claim or legal eligibility. CourtListener status recorded in search_ledger.

- Finding
- Archival leads (not retrieved): (a) the 16th Naval District Operations Log quoted by NavSource for the 10 April 1942 loss entry is a NARA-held record - WWII War Diaries are in RG 38 (Records of the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations) with digitized copies distributed via the NARA catalog/Fold3; (b) 16th Naval District and Cavite Navy Yard administrative and craft-construction records fall under RG 181 (Naval Districts and Shore Establishments) and RG 71/RG 19 (Bureau of Yards and Docks / Bureau of Ships) - noting that much of the Cavite yard's records were lost or destroyed in the 1941-42 campaign; (c) annual 'Ships' Data U.S. Naval Vessels' volumes (1920s-1941 printings) carry specification sheets for numbered district craft including YFB-683.
