Gives no builder, dimensions, propulsion, wartime Coast Guard service detail, or casualty cause, and contains no asbestos or materials information.

    Limitations
Secondary compilation of official Navy records (Roberts/Shipscribe IX series transcribes BuShips and NVR data) - reliable for identity, dates, and specifications but it is a transcription, not the underlying document. 'Sold ... for scrap' records the sale's stated purpose; the hull demonstrably was not scrapped (see ev-06). Contains no asbestos or insulation-materials information.

    Finding
CG-81006 belonged to the Coast Guard Reserve Coastal Picket Force (the 'Corsair Fleet'): after Operation Drumbeat, the service acquired private sailing yachts and fishing craft for offshore anti-submarine picket patrol; typical conversion was minimal - the yachts 'equipped with machine guns, a few depth charges and a radio.'

    Finding
The hull was not scrapped: after the 1946 sale, the schooner worked as a fishing dragger out of Stonington, Conn.; Roger Brainerd and Carl Chase pulled her from the Connecticut fishing fleet in 1971 and she was rebuilt as the sail-training vessel NATHANIEL BOWDITCH; the name chain includes JOSEPH W. HAWKINS (Penobscot Marine Museum captions); Captain Gil Philbrick with partners Dick Klain and Kip Leach bought her mid-1970s for windjammer sailing from Rockland; Noah and Jane Barnes with Capt. J.R. Braugh rebuilt her stem-to-stern at Lyman-Morse boatyard, Thomaston (2014-2016), restored the original name LADONA, and she has sailed the Maine windjammer fleet since 2016. This corrects NavSource's 'Final Disposition, fate unknown' and the 'sold for scrap' framing of the Navy disposal record.

Press and museum-caption sources, not official records; ownership/dating details vary slightly between tellings (PMM captions give 'built 1923' and 1975/1976 purchase dates vs. 1922 and 1971 in other sources - see gaps). The post-1946 chain between scrap buyer Russel E.C. Martin and the Stonington dragger period is undocumented. No asbestos information.

No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, casualty-report materials reference, or docketed case naming this hull (as USS Canandaigua IX-233, CG-81006, Jane Dore, or Ladona) was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). The vessel's design - a wooden-hulled auxiliary sailing schooner with a single gasoline engine, no boilers or steam plant - is not an asbestos-associated type, and its 3-week Navy service predated no documented refit.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - era-typical gaskets, exhaust lagging, or wiring could have contained asbestos and would leave no public trace for a vessel of this size. Nothing here establishes that asbestos is or is not present, or bears on any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.

CourtListener is a secondary index of opinions/dockets, not the full docket record; a name match is not a finding. 'Canandaigua' is a high-collision name (city/lake, NY - ~1,946 raw opinion hits, all place-name entities). Small craft of this type would in any event appear in litigation under owner/operator names, not hull designators. Sweep completed 2026-09-29; several queries required retries around the shared fleet pacing budget.
