- NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - milestone dates verified against the ship's own war diaries for commissioning (7 Oct 1943) and the I-32 action (24 Mar 1944) and against live NHHC pages for the kill; decommissioning month and 1956 naming rest on this compilation alone. 'Fate unknown' means final disposal is genuinely undocumented in located public sources. Contains no asbestos content.

- Finding
- The ship's own account of the I-32 action (read at image level). 23 March 1944: relieved of harbor-entrance patrol at Majuro 1400; CO conferred aboard USS Prairie with SOPA and CO of USS Manlove (DE-36) on 'a hunter-killer mission in vicinity of Wotje Atoll, the objective being to intercept a Japanese submarine bound for Wotje with supplies'; PC-1135 and Manlove to rendezvous with USS Halsey Powell and USS Hull at Erikub Atoll (Loj Island anchorage); group underway 1820 per CTU 57.7.3 (in Manlove) dispatch 231135. 24 March 1944 ('Important Date'): 'At 0722 this date, U.S.S. PC 1135 after attacking repeatedly for 3 hours finally sank a Japanese submarine with rockets from Mk 22 launchers. The submarine's depth was estimated between 450 to 600 feet. Depth of water 2,200 fathoms. Heavy oil slick 20 miles by 5 miles, lasting 3 or more days.' Position 0722: 08-30 N, 170-04 E. 27 March: Manlove and PC-1135 returned to the attack position, re-examined the oil slick; 'we were all fully convinced that there could be no question as to the certainty of our kill.' - Limitations
- Ship's own claim - the diary credits 'U.S.S. PC 1135' alone with the kill while official sources (DANFS Manlove; NHHC casualty list) credit Manlove and PC-1135 jointly, and the postwar TROM compilation says 'probably I-32.' Diary position 170-04 E vs NHHC/TROM 170-10 E - minor discrepancy carried in gaps. - Finding
- Official DANFS entry for the consort destroyer escort names this hull in the kill narrative: 'From 5 March until 16 May she cruised the Marshall Islands area on antisubmarine patrols and in hunter-killer (HUK) operations. On 24 March, during her first HUK assignment, she located the Japanese transport submarine I-32, then attempting to replenish the enemy garrison at Wotje. In the ensuing coordinated depth charge run, Manlove and her companion, PC-1135, sank the Japanese boat.'

- Finding
- Postwar Japanese-side compilation detail on the kill: I-32's 2231 (JST) 23 March sighting report of an enemy task force - her last message - was intercepted by Fleet Radio Unit Pacific (FRUPAC) codebreakers; the HUK group of Cdr W. T. McGarry's Halsey Powell (DD-686), Hull (DD-350), LtCdr J. P. Ingle's Manlove (DE-36), and Lt W. S. O'Kelly's PC-1135 was dispatched, rendezvousing at Erikub Atoll. 24 March, 50 miles S of Wotje: at 0422 Manlove's SL radar picked up the surfaced submarine at five miles; it crash-dived; 'HALSEY POWELL expends all of her depth charges in a series of attacks... Then MANLOVE attacks with depth charges and 7.2-inch Mark 10 "hedgehog" projector charges. PC-1135 also attacks with 7.2-inch spigot mortar-fired "Mousetrap" bombs. The submarine - probably I-32 - sinks at 08-30N, 170-10E.' I-32 presumed lost with all hands; removed from the IJN Navy List 10 June 1944.

- Finding
- A steel-hulled diesel submarine chaser built 1942-43 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era; era-standard applications aboard a patrol craft of this type and period were thermal insulation, machinery and diesel-exhaust lagging, gaskets, valve packing, and electrical insulation in the confined hull volume. As a diesel-powered craft she carried no steam plant - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply, but the small-hull confined-space exposure dynamic applies.
