    Finding
USS LST-529 was laid down 8 November 1943 at Jeffersonville Boat & Machine Co., Jeffersonville, Indiana; launched 17 January 1944; and commissioned 29 February 1944 under Lt. Gordon L. Moore, USNR. She served in the Europe-Africa-Middle East Theater and participated in the Normandy invasion, 6-25 June 1944. She was decommissioned 7 June 1946, recommissioned 22 September 1950, and participated in the U.N. Summer-Fall offensive, Second Korean Winter, and Korea Summer 1953 campaigns. She continued Korean-area service until July 1954. She was named Cayuga County on 1 July 1955, decommissioned 1 July 1963, and transferred to South Vietnam on 17 December 1963 as Thi Nai (HQ-502). After escaping to the Philippines in April 1975, she was transferred to the Philippine Navy on 17 November 1975 as BPR Cotabato Del Sur (LT-87); the page reports final scrapping in 2003. Awards reported are one WWII battle star and three Korean War battle stars.

    Limitations
Ship-specific historical summary from a live archival page. It contains no asbestos, insulation, hazardous-material, or exposure finding; dates and final disposition are carried as reported there. NHHC/DANFS was separately attempted but was inaccessible at research time.

    vessel_history
    Finding
The page identifies the vessel as an LST-491-class tank landing ship and gives 328 feet length, 50 feet beam, 13 officers and 104 enlisted in the complement, and accommodations for 16 officers and 147 enlisted troops. Propulsion was two General Motors 12-567A 900-hp diesel engines, single Falk main reduction gears, three diesel-drive 100-kW 230V D.C. ship's-service generators, and two propellers producing 1,700 shp.

    Finding type
    asbestos_application
    Finding
The cited historical scholarship describes extensive asbestos use in WWII-era U.S. shipbuilding, including insulation, lagging, and gaskets. Applied only as era context, the 1943-44 construction period is consistent with possible asbestos-containing materials in naval construction; this diesel-powered hull's propulsion description does not support a claim that any particular product was installed aboard it.

    Population
WWII-era shipbuilding and naval personnel; not a hull-specific sample
    Limitations
Class/era evidence does not name LST-529 or establish material aboard this hull, remaining material, quantity, disturbance, dose, causation, or legal eligibility. Product_normalized is therefore left empty.

  5. [5]Batch-7038 source and litigation sweep; NHHC/DANFS, NARA, NVR, Firecrawl, and authenticated CourtListener attempts [other_primary]
    Locator
    Search-ledger rows sl-uss-cayuga-county-lst529-01 through -12
    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record was located in the sources searched: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazardous-material disclosure, or product list naming USS Cayuga County, USS LST-529, RVNS Thi Nai, or BPR Cotabato Del Sur. No litigation result could be classified because the authenticated CourtListener helper entered a fleet-wide pacing stand-down before returning response payloads for the required exact-name and hull-number searches.

    Limitations
This is a documented search result, not proof that asbestos was absent. Firecrawl was quota-exhausted with a reported retry window of about 21.7 hours; NHHC/DANFS returned inaccessible 404/502 responses; CourtListener searches were initiated through the authenticated helper but stopped on its pacing guidance. State-court and unindexed records may remain outside coverage.

    Finding
The NHHC/DANFS URL for LST-529 was located and attempted as the authoritative history lead, but available fetches returned 404/502 and no page text was obtained. No claim in this record depends on inaccessible DANFS text.
