- asbestos_application
- Finding
- WWII-era U.S. Navy shipbuilding used asbestos extensively as insulation and fireproofing. Diesel-electric fleet tugs of the Navajo class (built 1942-1943) would have contained asbestos in diesel exhaust insulation, engine gaskets and packing, winch/windlass brake linings, and electrical insulation, consistent with standard shipbuilding practice of the era.
