[2]DANFS, Clarinda (No. 185), archived official NHHC capture (2024-07-16; live NHHC URL returned 404 on 2026-10-04) [nhhc_danfs]

- Finding
- DANFS identifies this hull as a 1913 motor yacht built by Matthew Boat Co., Detroit, Michigan; purchased by the Navy 5 July 1917; commissioned 21 November 1917 with Ensign I. S. Florsheim, USNRF, in command; assigned to the 6th Naval District and based at Charleston, South Carolina, for patrol and pilot duty during World War I; retained thereafter as a 6th Naval District patrol vessel through the end of 1930; decommissioned at Charleston Navy Yard 26 December 1930; and sold 1 June 1931. Its specifications block identifies YP-185 as 98 feet long, 17 feet 2 inches in beam, 5 feet 6 inches in draft, 14 knots, complement 18, with two 3-pounders and one depth-charge projector.

- Limitations
- This is a ship-history and specifications record, not a material record. It does not identify insulation, asbestos, engine make, fuel, materials aboard, exposure, or later civilian disposition. The source is an archived official capture because the live NHHC URL was dead at access time.

[3]DANFS, Clarinda (No. 185), archived official NHHC capture (2024-07-16); vessel identified as a motor yacht [other_primary]
- Locator
- DANFS opening sentence
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- The official DANFS entry describes Clarinda as a motor yacht rather than a steam vessel. This record therefore does not infer boiler or steam-turbine insulation pathways for this hull.

- Limitations
- The motor-yacht description does not establish the engine fuel, engine-room materials, insulation composition, or absence of asbestos in any system. It is a narrow correction against unsupported steam-plant assumptions.

[4]Batch-8702 search ledger (this record): NHHC/DANFS; NHHC photographic catalog; NARA catalog; CourtListener required queries; public authoritative-source sweep [other_primary]

- search_ledger rows sl-uss-clarinda-sp185-01 through -05
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, hazmat disclosure, or material specification naming USS Clarinda (SP-185/YP-185) was located in the completed authoritative-source research. CourtListener's required authenticated litigation sweep could not run because the fleet-wide pacing budget was momentarily spent; litigation status remains an open gap, not a negative result.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove that asbestos was absent. This negative finding does not establish or defeat exposure, causation, product identity, quantity, legal eligibility, or any individual claim. Relevant Navy and yard records may be undigitized.
