[2]U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Library, 'Veteran Exposure to Asbestos' (reviewed 2026-03-01) [other_primary]
- Locator
- 'What are sources of asbestos exposure in the military?' and 'Who's at risk?' sections
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- VA veteran-health guidance says asbestos-containing materials were used in engine and boiler rooms and other below-deck areas of Navy ships built before the mid-1970s, and lists Navy veterans who served on ships whose keels were laid before 1983 among groups at risk. DD-974 was laid down in 1975, within the guidance's keel-date category.

- General historical guidance; DD-974 keel laid 1975
- Population
- Navy veterans serving on vessels whose keels were laid before 1983
- Limitations
- General Navy/era health guidance, not a DD-974 survey or construction record. It does not establish that asbestos was installed, present, disturbed, or removed aboard this hull, and it does not establish individual exposure, disease, causation, or legal eligibility.

- Locator
- Search ledger sl-uss-comte-de-grasse-dd974-04
- Finding type
- litigation_documented
- Finding
- An authenticated CourtListener API v4 search using the required fleet helper was initiated for the exact name 'USS Comte de Grasse' (opinion search).
