    litigation_documented
    Finding
Published federal order names this hull in asbestos litigation. Plaintiff Michael J. Comardelle alleged asbestos exposure during 1963-1979 employment including at Avondale Shipyard and was deposed 4 Nov 2013 testifying he 'worked on all Navy destroyer escorts built at Avondale.' Westinghouse's 28 U.S.C. § 1442 removal notice (recited twice in the order) stated: 'Between 1967 and 1973, a number of Navy destroyer escorts were constructed at Avondale, including the U.S.S. Connole (DE 1056). Upon information and belief, at least some of these Navy vessels were outfitted with asbestos-containing or asbestos-insulated turbines which were manufactured and supplied to the Navy by Westinghouse.' The court denied remand, keeping the case in federal court. Comardelle died 3 May 2014; later orders (Daubert/SJ) do not adjudicate asbestos presence aboard this hull.

    Population
Avondale Shipyard worker 1963-1979 (decedent); construction-era trades on Avondale DE line
    Limitations
Pleading/removal-stage record, classified down accordingly: the exposure allegation is the plaintiff's shipyard-level testimony (all Avondale-built DEs, 1967-73 construction window), and the vessel-specific statement is a defendant's 'upon information and belief' assertion supporting a government-contractor removal theory - not a court finding. Establishes only that this hull was named in asbestos litigation; does not establish exposure aboard the commissioned vessel, asbestos actually installed, quantities, or legal eligibility.

    Finding
Era/class inference: a destroyer escort built 1967-69 with a 1,200-psi two-boiler steam plant would have carried period-standard asbestos insulation, lagging, gaskets, packing, fireproofing, and deck coverings - Navy insulation-substitution efforts postdate this construction (insulation removal era per GAO began mid-1970s). Documented yard periods (Philadelphia NSY 1974, Norfolk NSY 1975, Boston Shipyard Corp 1984-85, late 1987) are events during which installed asbestos would have been disturbed.

    Limitations
Inference only - no hull-specific insulation schedule, material list, or survey was located; the Comardelle 'asbestos-insulated turbines' statement is pleading-level and does not itself verify the inference. Boiler manufacturer references conflict across sources (Combustion Engineering vs. Babcock & Wilcox for this class/hull) - carried in gaps. This row must not be read as 'documented aboard this hull.'

    Finding
CourtListener sweep results: (1) QUALIFYING - Comardelle v. Pennsylvania General Insurance Co., 2:13-cv-06555 (E.D. La., suitNature 'P.I. : Asbestos', filed 2013-12-03, terminated 2015-01-07, Judge Africk; CL docket_id 5195049) - this hull named in the published Doc 61 remand order (see ev-04). (2) NON-QUALIFYING - remaining asbestos-docket hits are list references: 'Connole' appears inside 'Vessels Constructed at Avondale Since Founding of Company 1938' exhibits filed in Avondale-yard asbestos cases (e.g., Vedros v. Northrop Grumman, 2:11-cv-01198 E.D. La., carried on the MDL-875 tag-along docket; Savoie v. Pennsylvania General Insurance, 2:15-cv-01220 E.D. La.) - the hull appears in constructed-vessel lists, not as an alleged exposure site. (3) Non-asbestos hits are surname collisions (e.g., party 'Mac Connole' in Chatwin v. Draper City, D. Utah).
