- DANFS record for this hull: Corbesier (DE-106) 'had her name cancelled 24 September 1943 and was transferred to France under lend lease 2 January 1944 under the name SENEGALAIS. She was transferred to France permanently under the Mutual Defense Assistance Program 21 April 1952.' Bracketed register data (Conway's, Jane's, Bauer & Roberts): frigate SENEGALAIS (F-702) renamed frigate YSER (F-702) in August 1962; returned to the U.S. Navy in May 1964; stricken from French records the following year; built by Dravo Corp. of Wilmington, Del.; laid down 24 April 1943; launched 11 November 1943; commissioned into the U.S. Navy 31 December 1943; stricken from the Navy Register 14 May 1952. Namesake: Antoine Joseph Corbesier, born 22 January 1837 in Belgium; swordmaster of the Naval Academy midshipmen for more than 40 years; commissioned First Lieutenant, USMC, by special act of Congress 4 March 1913; died at the Naval Hospital, Annapolis, 26 March (the DE-106 transcription reads 1916, the DE-438 transcription 1915 - typographical variant between mirrors).

- Dravo Corp. Wilmington construction trades 1943; Free French/French Navy crew 1944-1964
- Limitations
- DANFS documents identity, transfer, and disposal history, not materials or asbestos content. The DE-106 entry is the brief DANFS form - no specification block and no service narrative; French-service detail rests on secondary compilations (see ev-03). The bracketed 'Commissioned into the US Navy: 31 December 1943' (Bauer & Roberts) conflicts with NavSource and allied indexes, which list no U.S. commissioning - carried in gaps. The DANFS headword also covers USS Corbesier (DE-438), a different hull excluded from this record.

- Finding
- Class/era inference: DE-106 sits in the April 1945 BuShips roster's DET-design (Cannon-class) block DE-99 through DE-113, built by Dravo Corp., Wilmington. A Cannon-class destroyer escort built 1943 with a diesel-electric plant (four GM 16-278A diesel-generator sets, electric drive, 6,000 shp, ~21 kt) would have carried era-standard asbestos applications appropriate to a diesel-electric ship - exhaust insulation, gaskets and packing, electrical insulation, brake linings, and deck coverings - but no boilers or steam lagging.

- Limitations
- Class/era inference only - NOT a hull-specific finding. No material schedule, insulation specification, or hull survey for DE-106 is public; the diesel-electric plant means the largest asbestos categories of steam ships (boiler and steam-line insulation) do not apply; does not quantify material or establish any individual's exposure. Builder Dravo Corp. Wilmington is not in the Atlas shipyard dataset - no yard-level asbestos tier exists for it (carried in gaps).

- French-service and disposition record for this hull. Wartime: commissioned into the Free French Naval Forces as Senegalais (T-22) on 2 January 1944; Mediterranean convoy escort incl. GUS-38 (Port Said, 24 April 1944); in the hunt after U-371 torpedoed USS Menges (DE-320) on 3 May 1944, Senegalais reported the surfaced U-boat about 0315 on 4 May, illuminated and fired on it, and was hit in the stern by the U-boat's GNAT acoustic torpedo - assisted into Djidjelli by the French corvette L'Alcyon; U-371 was sunk at 0409-0440 on 4 May 1944 at 37 deg 49' N, 05 deg 39' E by depth charges from USS Pride, USS Joseph E. Campbell, Senegalais, and HMS Blankney. Still under repair, she crossed westbound under tow by fleet tug USS Abnaki in convoy GUS-47; on day 16 (August 1944) USS Rudderow parted company taking Abnaki and her tow 'to proceed to Charleston, South Carolina' for repair. Postwar: French Navy pennants F-02 then F-702 (1950), reclassified frigate 1952, permanent transfer under MDAP 21 April 1952, renamed Yser August 1962 (navypedia dates the rename 1963), decommissioned/returned to U.S. custody May 1964, stricken from French records 1965, and sold 18 October 1965 to Walter Ritscher, Hamburg, for scrap. Deployed to the Far East October 1945 and served in the First Indochina War (secondary compilations only).

- Limitations
- Secondary specialist compilations (uboat.net, navypedia) and a photo-archive index (NavSource via wayback), not official records - French service history is documented here, not in DANFS. The GUS-47 log documents the tow bound for Charleston; arrival and repair scope there are not directly confirmed in located sources, and any U.S.-yard repair record for the hull is unretrieved. No material or asbestos content in any source; the French-custody material history 1944-1965 is undocumented.

- Finding
- Builder-level asbestos-litigation context: this hull's builder, Dravo Corporation, is the subject of a stipulated record in Pennsylvania asbestos litigation - Dravo was 'involved in a number of businesses involving heavy industry,' including 'manufacturing watercraft and industrial heating equipment and providing construction and engineering services in steel mills, chemical plants, and other industrial settings,' and 'since at least the early 1990s, Dravo had been sued in a number of lawsuits that sought damages due to alleged bodily injury caused by exposure to asbestos, where the exposure typically occurred during its operations from the 1940s through the 1980s' (Stipulation of Undisputed Facts as recited by the Superior Court). Disposition: trial court (C.C.P. Allegheny, Oct 5, 2022) granted summary judgment to parent Carmeuse Lime; Superior Court reversed and remanded (Dec 19, 2023); the Pennsylvania Supreme Court reversed the Superior Court on May 22, 2026, holding the equitable remedy of veil piercing unavailable for claims time-barred against the dissolved LLC.

- CourtListener sweep (authenticated API v4, 2026-09-28), opinion index: 'Corbesier' returned 0 opinions - neither the DE-106 nor the DE-438 hull appears in any indexed opinion; 'Senegalais' returned 0 opinions - the hull's Free French/French service name appears in no indexed opinion; 'DE-106' returned 54 opinions, all federal/state docket-entry-number ('DE 106'/'DE#106') string collisions in unrelated civil and criminal matters (Puerto Rico appeals, S.D. Fla. foreclosure/bankruptcy, E.D.N.Y., D.D.C., 6th Cir.) with no vessel or asbestos content in any fetched snippet. RECAP docket index: 'USS Corbesier' returned 0 dockets; 'Senegalais' returned 1 docket - In re Allen Systems Group, Inc., Ch. 11 No. 15-10332 (Bankr. D. Del. 2015), where the string appears inside a 433-page creditor-matrix PDF listing French addresses - a substring/address collision, not vessel-related, not asbestos; 'DE-106' at type=r could not be completed - the fleet-wide pacing budget was repeatedly spent across spaced retries and the attempt returned the pacing-standdown signal; deferred as an open item rather than retried into a throttle (search_ledger sl-uss-corbesier-de106-14).

- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located for DE-106: no hull ACM survey, abatement contract, museum hazmat disclosure, or donation-condition document exists - the hull was transferred to Free France days after completion and scrapped at Hamburg 1965-66, leaving no museum pathway and no U.S.-side abatement record. No qualifying asbestos litigation names the vessel: CourtListener 'Corbesier' and 'Senegalais' each returned zero opinions; 'DE-106' returned 54 opinions, all docket-entry-number string collisions; the RECAP docket-index sweep is deferred under fleet pacing (ev-06). Law-firm asbestos-ship listicles were not consulted per batch source rules.
