Departed San Pedro 3 January 1943, arrived Noumea 25 February escorting convoys; local escort and antisubmarine patrol out of Noumea until 9 April, then Suva, Fiji, relieving HMFS Viti as local escort/patrol vessel. Escorted torpedoed SS William Williams to Suva 3-7 May; rescued 25 men including the commanding officer from torpedoed SS Phoebe Hearst 14 May; picked up 56 men from SS William K. Vanderbilt three days later. Convoy to Guadalcanal 26 July - 16 August 1943; swept mines off Kolombangara Island 23 October - 6 November 1943; escort/patrol in Solomons, New Hebrides, New Caledonia (Auckland voyage escorting Delphinius (AF-24) 16 January - 1 February 1944) until end of war. Reclassified submarine chaser PC-1592 on 1 June 1944; operated Fiji Islands and Samoa until return to Pearl Harbor; decommissioned there 10 May 1946; transferred to War Assets Administration for disposal 19 December 1947; fate unknown.

DANFS documents construction, service history, and disposal path - not materials or asbestos content. Laid-down date (6 April 1942) is from NavSource, not the DANFS text, which begins at launch. Mirror transcription cited because the live NHHC page returned 404.

Compiled record for this hull: laid down 6 April 1942 by Commercial Iron Works, Portland, OR (yard hull no. 40 per shipbuilding tabulations); Adroit-class steel minesweeper, 295 t, 173'8" length, 23' beam; armament one 3"/50 dual-purpose mount, one 40mm, five 20mm, two depth-charge tracks, two depth-charge projectors; propulsion two Cooper Bessemer GNB8 diesel engines (900 hp each per NavSource), Farrel-Birmingham single-reduction gear, two shafts; complement 65 (minesweeper) / 105 (as PC-1592, HyperWar). Reclassified PC-1592 1 June 1944 along with the entire Adroit class (AM-82 through AM-99 -> PC-1586 through PC-1603). Seven USNR commanding officers listed, October 1942 - May 1946.

Commercial Iron Works construction trades (1942); wartime crew (65 as AM, 105 as PC)
    Limitations
NavSource/HyperWar are compiled volunteer archives of record-quality material, not the official record; specification figures conflict across tabulations (draft 6'6" vs 11'7"; displacement 295 t vs 450 t; speed 16 vs 17 knots; engine rating 900 hp each vs 1,770 shp total) - conflicts carried in gaps. Contains no asbestos or materials content.

DANFS entry (builder, 1942 commissioning) + NavSource specifications block (diesel plant)
    Finding type
    asbestos_application
    Finding
As built in 1942 under wartime Navy specifications, a steel-hulled diesel minesweeper of this type carried era-standard asbestos applications: thermal lagging on diesel exhaust manifolds and mufflers; gaskets and packing throughout the engineering plant; asbestos-containing electrical insulation and switchboard arc protection; thermal/acoustic insulation in machinery spaces and accommodation areas; deck coverings and cements; and asbestos brake linings on winch, windlass, and minesweeping-gear machinery.

Commercial Iron Works construction trades (1942); engineering-rated crew
    Limitations
Era inference, not a hull record: no insulation survey, specification schedule, or materials list for this hull was located. Because the plant is diesel (no boilers, no steam system), boiler and steam-line insulation claims made for steam vessels do NOT apply here and are excluded. Does not establish quantity, specific products, present-day presence, or any individual exposure.

    Finding
GAO documented that the Navy used asbestos extensively in ship construction and repair and had established insulation-removal and worker-protection programs by the mid/late 1970s - program-level context for the era in which this hull was built (1942) and served.

    Finding
NARA holds deck logs and small-format patrol logs for WWII-era vessels in the 1941-1959 series. The NAC digitized listing for 'Dash' covers only Dash (AM/MSO-428), 1956-1973 - the second, later vessel of the name. Deck logs/patrol logs for AM-88/PC-1592 (1942-1946) should exist in the 1941-1959 series but digitization for this hull is not confirmed; WWII war diaries (RG 38) are a parallel lead.

Disambiguation: a second USS Dash (AM-428/MSO-428), an Agile-class ocean minesweeper built at Astoria, Oregon, served 1953-1982 and was scrapped in 1984. Any 'USS Dash' record dated 1953 or later, any MSO-428 reference, and the digitized NARA deck logs under 'Dash' (1956-1973) belong to that later hull - not to AM-88/PC-1592.

    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or docketed case naming USS Dash (AM-88) or PC-1592 was found in the sources searched. CourtListener API returned HTTP 429 (shared daily quota exhausted); name/hull searches completed via the public web index returned only unrelated 'Dash' name collisions (e.g., Damon Dash entertainment litigation). No result does not equal no exposure - it means no public record was located.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - the hull's 1942 wartime construction is itself consistent with era-typical materials. Does not establish that asbestos is or is not present, does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility, and the API-throttled CourtListener check should be re-run when quota resets.
