    Finding
DANFS record for this hull: 'Keel laid 3/10/19. Launched 7/9/19. Commissioned 10/10/19. Classified as PE-52 7/17/20. Sold 8/29/38.' The page's footnote records that all Eagle Boats were built at Detroit, Mich., by the Ford Motor Co., and that cancelled boats were numbered as high as No. 112 (six of them allotted for transfer to Italy, a transfer that never took place).

    Limitations
Ship-specific construction and disposal record only; no operational narrative, no specifications, no complement, no decommissioning date, and no asbestos or material content. The live NHHC page serves the entry; no mirror needed.

    Finding
NavSource timeline for this hull: laid down 10 March 1919 by Ford Motor Co., Detroit, MI; launched 9 July 1919; commissioned USS Eagle No. 52, 10 October 1919; designated PE-52, 17 July 1920; sold 29 August 1938; fate unknown. Specifications: 615 t.; 200'9" x 33'1" x 8'6"; 18.3 kts.; complement 61; armament two 4"/50 mounts, one 3"/40 mount, two .50-cal. machine guns, one Y-gun depth charge projector; propulsion two Thorny-Croft Bureau Mod. boilers, one 2,500-shp Poole turbine, Ford single reduction gear, one shaft. Commanding officers documented: LT DeForest Loys Trautman, USN (1934) and LTJG Clanton Earl Austin, USN (1935) - establishing commissioned service in 1934-1935 before decommissioned storage. Photographic record: off the Philadelphia Navy Yard 14 June 1926 (NHHC photo NH 54325); Philadelphia Navy Yard, c. 1930s; and an AP wire photo dated 21 July 1938 captioned 'PHILADELPHIA - 21 July - UNCLE SAM IN BOAT BUSINESS - These six decommissioned "Eagle Boats" built during World War days to chase subs, are tied up at the Navy Yard here, awaiting the highest bidder. Navy officials will open bids Aug. 18.'

Ford Motor Co. construction trades (1919); crew (1919-1930s; documented COs 1934-1935); Philadelphia Navy Yard presence 1926, 1930s, 1938
    Limitations
NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry; its milestone dates here agree exactly with DANFS (ev-01). The complement figure (61) is NavSource-only and unverified against DANFS/NHHC - carried in gaps, not asserted in the record. The 1938 AP caption documents decommissioned storage of six Eagle boats at Philadelphia awaiting the sale; the photo shows the group, not a hull-numbered image of PE-52 specifically. Contains no asbestos content.

  4. [4]Era inference built on: NavSource specifications block (two boilers + steam turbine, single shaft) and DANFS construction record (built 1919, Ford Motor Co., Detroit) for this hull [other_primary]
    Locator
NavSource 12/0452.htm specifications block (propulsion line); DANFS Eagle No. 52 entry (build year and builder)
    Finding type
    asbestos_application
    Finding
Era/type inference: a patrol craft built 1919 with a two-boiler, single-turbine steam plant would have carried period-standard asbestos applications - boiler insulation, steam-line lagging, gaskets, and packing. WWI-era naval steam vessels predate any asbestos substitution era; asbestos insulation was standard in naval steam plants of the period.

    Population
Ford Motor Co. construction trades (1919); crew (1919-1930s); any purchasers/breakers after the 1938 sale
    Limitations
Class/era inference only - no hull-specific insulation survey, material list, plan, or work package located for PE-52. Names era-standard applications, not confirmed installed materials. No quantity, no manufacturer attribution. The general claim that WWI-era naval steam plants used asbestos insulation is itself era knowledge, not a hull record; builder Ford Motor Co., Detroit, is not an Atlas shipyards.json entry, so no yard-level documentation can be cross-linked.

  5. [5]Batch-8405 search ledger (this record): DANFS live page; NavSource; CourtListener exact-name opinion query (zero results; three mandated base queries pacing-blocked - see ledger); NVR (no entry, disposed pre-1987); NHHC photo-catalog page (404); NARA catalog (JS-rendered, not retrievable); philatelic wiki lead [other_primary]

    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming USS Eagle No. 52 / PE-52 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). The exact-name CourtListener opinion query returned zero results; the remaining three mandated base queries were pacing-blocked by the fleet limiter this session and are logged as pending, not as negative results.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - the hull was sold in 1938, decades before modern ACM record-keeping, and her post-sale fate is unknown. The litigation repository search is partly an open gap (three of four base queries pending). Deck logs (NARA RG 24) and Ford build records are undigitized leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
