- Limitations
- Establishes identity, construction, conversion, and flagship service through 1962 (the DANFS volume's coverage cutoff). Contains no asbestos or insulation-material statement - supports no asbestos claim. Post-1962 history (Vietnam service, LCC-11 redesignation, decommissioning) is outside this entry and is documented by other rows.

- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- MARAD milestones record the vessel's name change from MONSOON to ELDORADO and transfer to the US Navy on 1944-02-01; MARAD took title from the Navy 1973-08-10 and sold the vessel the same day for non-transportation use to Mr. George Wang. Status-card detail (via NavSource): sold from NISNF San Diego for $155,140 (PD-X-961); resold to David Purcell under export license 73007 (1974-04-25) for movement to Taiwan as a storage facility; removed from the NDRF 1974-09-05 under tow by MV Sea Giant enroute Taiwan.

- Limitations
- Disposition record only - contains no materials, asbestos, or abatement information. 'Sold -NTU' (non-transportation use) does not itself prove scrapping; the documented destination was a Taiwan storage facility, and fate after arrival is unrecorded. NavSource used as disclosed cross-check for status-card detail.

[3]MARAD ShipHistory Detail 5890 vs. secondary-compilation claim 'sold by DRMS for scrapping, 1 December 1976' (Wikipedia and derivative lists) [marad_nrc]
- Locator
- MARAD milestones (Acquisition/Withdrawal 8/10/1973); NavSource Final Disposition block; Wikipedia infobox 'Fate' line as the conflicting secondary
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- Secondary compilations repeat a 'sold by Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service for scrapping, December 1, 1976' fate. The authoritative MARAD record shows the Navy transferred title to MARAD 1973-08-10 and the ship was sold the same day, then resold and towed out of the NDRF to Taiwan in 1974 - no 1976 DRMS sale occurred under MARAD custody. The MARAD record is adopted.

- Limitations
- Correction resolves the disposal pathway (MARAD 1973 sale, 1974 Taiwan tow) but not the end state: whether the hull was scrapped in Taiwan, served afloat as storage, or survives in some form is unrecorded. The 1976 DRMS date's own provenance was not traced to any primary source.

- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- Peer-reviewed historical study documents that asbestos was used extensively as fireproofing and insulating material in U.S. shipbuilding during WWII, the program under which this hull was built (1943 Maritime Commission C2-S-AJ1) and converted (1944 Navy AGC conversion at Bethlehem Steel Brooklyn). The documented steam plant (two 450-psi header-type boilers, geared turbine) is of the type that era practice insulated with asbestos-containing materials.

- WWII shipyard workers and ship crews (class context)
- Limitations
- Program/era-level scholarship; does not name this vessel. The propulsion spec itself rests on the NavSource spec block (secondary compilation of ship's data), not a located primary spec sheet. Establishes era likelihood only - not that asbestos was or remains aboard this hull, nor quantity, location, exposure, or causation for any individual.

[5]NARA Record Group 19 (Bureau of Ships), File Unit 153713487 'Plans for the Amphibious Force Command Ship USS Eldorado (AGC-11)' - partially digitized Booklet of General Plans (mirrored on archive.org as agc11ga1945); RG 181 Mare Island/Puget Sound yard photo series documenting overhauls [other_primary]
- Locator
- archive.org item agc11ga1945 (metadata cites NARA catalog.archives.gov/id/153713487, series 'Ship Engineering Drawings 1874-1976', RG 19); NavSource photo captions citing NARA RG 181 photo numbers (Mare Island 7051-7054-44, 7116/7120-44, 3628/3639/3641/3643-46; Bremerton series 1948)
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- A ship-specific NARA plans file unit exists for this hull (RG 19, catalog id 153713487); the digitized portion is an incomplete two-sheet set (cover photo dated 1944-11-22; second-platform general arrangement dated 1945-03-11) confirming the converted command-ship configuration. Navy-yard photos in the NavSource collection (RG 181 attributions) document overhaul periods at Mare Island (1944-10-01 to 11-22; October 1946; summer 1952) and an inclining experiment at Puget Sound NSY Bremerton (1948-07-02).

- Conversion-yard workers (Bethlehem Brooklyn 1944); Mare Island/Puget Sound yard workers (1944, 1946, 1948, 1952 periods)
- Limitations
- The digitized set contains no insulation schedule and no materials statement; the full RG 19 file unit, yard work packages, and RG 24 deck logs (if retained) are unreviewed - the correct archival path for any future hull-level insulation/abatement documentation. None of this establishes asbestos content.

[6]Batch-702 search ledger (this record): NHHC/DANFS (live 404 + verbatim transcription); MARAD ShipHistory 5890; NARA RG 19 plans unit; CourtListener API v4 and web UI; web-index checks for ship-name and hull-number litigation [other_primary]
- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-uss-eldorado-agc11-01 through sl-uss-eldorado-agc11-09
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or docketed case naming USS Eldorado or AGC-11 was found in the public sources searched. Web-index litigation checks returned only name collisions (Eldorado Resorts, Eldorado Trading Co., a Cadillac Eldorado forfeiture, Eldorado Coal & Mining). Asbestos-marketing pages for this hull exist but are excluded under source rules and document nothing.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - a 1943-44 wartime build/conversion is era-consistent with extensive asbestos insulation. The hull was disposed in 1973-74, pre-dating modern disclosure regimes. CourtListener API was rate-limited (125/day exhausted, ~10.8h retry) and the web UI returned 403; classification relied on the web index and is stated at that confidence.
