- report summary/introductory discussion of asbestos in Navy ships
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- GAO's Navy asbestos review states that it examined asbestos use in Navy ships and reports that, although all ships contained some asbestos in components such as clutches and electric cables, asbestos thermal insulation was the Navy's major use aboard ships. This supports Navy-wide era context for a 1943-built PC-461-class diesel craft, but does not identify any material aboard PC-1216.

- Population
- Navy ships and shipyard workers reviewed by GAO; not PC-1216-specific
- Limitations
- Program-level evidence only. It does not establish asbestos presence, product identity, quantity, location, condition, retained material, worker exposure, causation, or legal eligibility for PC-1216. Diesel propulsion means no ship-specific boiler or turbine inference is made.

- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-uss-elkins-pc1216-01 through -08
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos survey, hazardous-material inventory, abatement record, construction material specification, product-identification record, or completed asbestos-litigation finding was located in the authoritative public sources reviewed for USS Elkins / PC-1216. Asbestos presence aboard this hull remains unknown.

- Limitations
- This is a bounded research result, not proof of absence. The Firecrawl connector was quota-blocked; the authenticated CourtListener helper was invoked for exact-name opinions and, after a wait, for the exact hull-number docket query, but the fleet pacing budget was spent before either returned a result. No litigation conclusion is drawn from that unavailable search.
