[2]Archived 2015 capture of NHHC, Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships, Erie II (PG-50); the live NHHC URL returned HTTP 404 on 2026-10-04 [nhhc_danfs]

- Archived DANFS entry, heading/specification block and service narrative; archived capture timestamp 2015-09-24
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- DANFS identifies this hull as the second Erie (PG-50), launched 29 January 1936 by New York Navy Yard and commissioned 1 July 1936. The entry lists a complement of 243. DANFS describes Caribbean convoy-escort service. It reports Erie was torpedoed while underway from Port-of-Spain toward Guantanamo Bay in November 1942, was brought to Willemstad Harbor for repairs, then capsized and sank there on 5 December 1942 during salvage preparations.

- Limitations
- This is the 2015 archived capture of the official DANFS entry; the live NHHC DANFS URL returned HTTP 404 on 2026-10-04. The entry establishes vessel history and listed complement only; it does not document asbestos, specific materials aboard, exposure, or the number of personnel aboard at loss. The DANFS entry describes the class as 'Ontario'; the Erie-class gunboat classification in this record follows the batch scope correction and is not attributed to that DANFS class field.

[3]National Archives, Special List 44 - Named Vessels, live page; Erie (PG-50) deck-log entries [other_primary]
- Locator
- Special List 44, Erie (PG-50) entries at page lines 2588-2590 in the live page; 1936, 1937, and 1938-1942 date ranges
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- NARA's named-vessel deck-log index lists USS Erie (PG-50) log periods 1 July-31 December 1936, 24 August-31 July 1937 as transcribed in the index, and 1 January 1938-12 November 1942. The index establishes the existence/date coverage of listed deck logs; it is not itself a deck-log narrative or an asbestos record.

- Population
- Erie crew and shipboard activity covered by the indexed deck logs
- Limitations
- The NARA finding aid is live and identifies log date ranges, but does not provide the logs' contents. The 1937 indexed period has an internally irregular start/end order and is transcribed as displayed; it is not used to make a service claim. No asbestos information is asserted.

[4]Research result from review of the archived DANFS entry, NARA Special List 44, NHHC search-indexed Erie ship-history/photography/forward-repair results, and the failed authenticated CourtListener attempt; individual access limits are recorded in search_ledger [other_primary]
- Locator
- Search ledger sl-03 through sl-10; CourtListener sl-04 through sl-07 are blocked and do not establish no litigation
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- No directly ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, material inventory, Navy hazmat disclosure, or asbestos-related litigation record was located in the public records reviewed for this batch. Ship-specific asbestos documentation and any crew exposure remain unknown.

- Population
- Erie hull and crew
- Limitations
- This is a bounded negative finding, not proof that no such records exist. NHHC pages required the archive fallback because the current URLs returned 404; Firecrawl search was unavailable due its MCP rate limit; the authenticated CourtListener request was blocked by fleet pacing. Class, era, steam propulsion, and boiler presence are not used to infer asbestos aboard Erie.
