Leavitt Jr.; and placed in service on 14 January 1942 for minesweeping in the 6th Naval District out of Charleston, S.C. On 15 February 1943 she was reclassified YDT-4, and assigned to the 1st Naval District as a diving tender. She continued to perform this duty through 1962.'

- Finding
- NARA indexes this hull's deck logs under 'Exultant (AMC-79/YDT-4)' with commission January 1942 and decommission February 1943, and has digitized three 1942 quarterly log volumes covering her 6th Naval District minesweeping period (April-June, July-September, October-December 1942). The February 1943 'decommission' date corroborates DANFS's 15 February 1943 reclassification to unnamed yard craft YDT-4.

Deck logs for the YDT-4 period (1943-1962, unnamed yard craft) are not indexed here and may not have been kept in ship-deck-log form. No asbestos content.

[5]Era inference built on: NavSource specification block for this hull (one 400-shp diesel, one shaft); Accentor-class design record (wooden-hulled littoral minesweeper, diesel propulsion, complement ~17); DANFS (in-service record) [other_primary]

- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- A wooden-hulled coastal minesweeper powered by a single 400-shp diesel had a markedly smaller asbestos-relevant systems envelope than steam vessels: no boilers, no steam drums, no steam piping, no turbines. The era-standard applications consistent with her type were engine exhaust lagging on the diesel, machinery gaskets and valve packing, and electrical insulation - products of a kind that commonly contained asbestos in the 1941-1962 window. Asbestos aboard this specific hull is a reasonable but unproven era inference.

- Builder-yard trades at W. A. Robinson, Ipswich (1941); crew engine-room personnel (1942-1962); maintenance and overhaul personnel at 6th/1st Naval District facilities
- Limitations
- Class/era inference only - no hull-specific insulation schedule, material list, or work package located. Names era-standard applications, not confirmed installed materials; no quantity; no manufacturer attribution. The inference envelope is narrower than for steam-powered ships because this craft had no steam plant.

- Finding type
- gov_survey
- Finding
- GAO documented the Navy-wide asbestos program this hull's service era sat inside: the Navy used asbestos insulation aboard ships for decades, and its 1975 policy was to remove and replace with nonasbestos materials only insulation that was damaged or had to be removed for necessary repairs, modified in 1979 to selectively replace asbestos insulation in high-maintenance areas. Fieldwork yards were Long Beach and Norfolk Naval Shipyards.

- R&R at Part II.B ('Facts Regarding Decedent's Alleged Exposure History'), D.I. references

- Finding
- CORRECTION - cross-hull name collision: the asbestos litigation naming 'U.S.S. Exultant' concerns the second Exultant (AM-441/MSO-441), not this hull. The R&R's own facts resolve the identity: the decedent was Engineering Officer aboard a commissioned 'U.S.S. Exultant' spring 1962-spring 1964 with engines No. 3 and 4 of four being Curtiss-Wright Model 12-V-142 diesels, a Mediterranean voyage in January 1963, and repairs at Naples and Charleston - consistent with MSO-441 (Aggressive-class ocean minesweeper, four diesels, in commission 1954-1993; record uss-exultant-am441). By contrast this hull (AMC-79) was an unnamed yard craft YDT-4 from February 1943, a diving tender in the 1st Naval District at Boston with a single 400-shp diesel and one shaft, out of service 1962. A plaintiff could not have been an Engineering Officer of this hull in 1962-64 - it had been an unnamed yard craft for nineteen years and carried no multi-engine diesel plant.

- MSO-441 crew (1962-64) - different hull; none aboard this craft
- Limitations
- The R&R itself says only 'U.S.S. Exultant' with no hull number; the attribution to MSO-441 is resolved by the opinion's stated facts, not by an explicit designation in the document. R&R-stage document: it finds a genuine dispute of material fact for summary-judgment purposes under the plaintiff-favorable standard - it is not a trial finding of exposure. Logged here so that no reader attributes MSO-441's litigation record to AMC-79; the corresponding affirmative row belongs in the AM-441 record.

- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located for this hull: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, material schedule, or confirmed docketed asbestos case naming AMC-79 or YDT-4 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). CourtListener base queries ran to completion: 'Exultant' opinions (27 hits - all adjective usage or 'Exultant, Inc.' party names, zero ship-related); 'Exultant' dockets (52 hits - 51 unrelated plus the Roadarmel asbestos docket resolved to MSO-441, see ev-06); 'AMC-79' opinions (2 hits, one case - '1963 AMC 79' is an American Maritime Cases reporter citation); 'AMC-79' dockets (8 hits - all unrelated). The only 'asbestos aboard' material in secondary web results is law-firm marketing listicle content asserting asbestos without primary sourcing - excluded by source policy.

- Limitations
- Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - it proves no public documentation was found in the repositories searched. The 1942 deck logs exist and were not fully read; YDT-4-era yard-craft records (1943-1962) and the 1973 target-sinking file are undigitized leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
