- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding

- 1944-04-20 to 1945-12-31 (log coverage)
- Limitations
- The online finding aid provides month/year service markers and identifies log holdings; the listed log coverage dates are not commissioning or decommissioning dates. Individual deck-log entries were not examined, and this record does not establish asbestos content or exposure.

[3]Harold J. Sutphen, 'USS Fairview (EPCER-850),' U.S. Naval Institute Proceedings, January 1964, vol. 90/1/731; author identified as commanding officer December 1961-June 1963 [other_primary]

- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The commanding officer's 1964 account states Fairview was commissioned at New Orleans on 18 April 1944 as USS PCE(R)-850; built by Pullman Standard Car Company in Chicago for convoy escort and rescue; served in the Pacific during World War II, including the Philippine campaign and the Tokyo Bay surrender; returned to the United States and underwent a major conversion at Boston Naval Shipyard; and thereafter worked in experimental service, including for the Navy Underwater Sound Laboratory. It describes twin 12-cylinder General Motors diesel engines, twin screws, approximately 15 knots, and a 1964 complement of five officers and 55 enlisted.

- Population
- Ship's company and embarked research personnel
- Limitations
- Contemporaneous first-person institutional account, but not a Navy technical specification or formal ship-history register. The 1964 complement and operating description apply to that period and do not establish wartime complement, exact conversion dates, materials aboard, or asbestos exposure.

- Limitations
- Search-index result only; the NHHC result page was not retrievable during this research. It supports the hull/name association and the search result's Tokyo Bay listing, not a complete service chronology or asbestos-related finding.

[5]Research log: official-source searches and limited authenticated CourtListener helper attempts; Firecrawl MCP keyless quota exhausted [other_primary]
- Locator
- Batch 8213 research log, 2026-10-03; CourtListener helper stdout/stderr and Firecrawl quota response
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement record, product inventory, or exposure record was verified among sources retrieved for this record. CourtListener screening was not completed; no litigation finding is made.

- Documentation level
- context_only
- Accessed
- 2026-10-03
- Limitations
- This is a bounded search result, not evidence that asbestos was absent or that no litigation exists. Firecrawl MCP reported keyless quota exhaustion with a 17-hour retry interval. Two authenticated CourtListener helper invocations remained pending without returned results; a third was stopped by the fleet pacing limiter, so the exact-name opinion/docket and hull-number docket result sets are unavailable and no fourth base query or asbestos variants were run.
