[3]Board of Veterans' Appeals, Citation Nr. 1140190 [other_primary]
- Locator
- Citation Nr. 1140190 (va.gov/vetapp11)
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- A veteran transported aboard USS Fayette (APA-43) from Guadalcanal to Peleliu, 30 August-20 September 1944, later died of mesothelioma; the Board found the veteran was exposed to asbestos while aboard World War II transport ships and granted service connection for the cause of death. The decision stated that the exact extent of asbestos use on each specific transport was uncertain.

- Service: 30 Aug-20 Sep 1944 aboard; claim decided 2011
- Population
- One veteran (deceased; cause of death: mesothelioma)
- Limitations
- Individual-claim administrative decision, not a hull-specific asbestos survey. The exposure finding rested on multi-ship transport history resolved in the veteran's favor (benefit-of-the-doubt / medical-opinion basis); it does not identify asbestos products aboard USS Fayette and does not establish exposure for any other person aboard.
