- Limitations
- Identity history rests on the DANFS-derived Wikipedia transcription; the live NHHC DANFS page was unreachable (HTTP 500) during the research window, so the NHHC primary page could not be confirmed directly. Commissioning date: narrative gives 23 November 1943, infobox gives 29 November 1943; both recorded rather than silently reconciled.

- Finding
- A veteran who served on ships including USS Fremont as an engineman (service June 1961-May 1965) claimed he was exposed to asbestos while removing asbestos aboard ship. The Board found it reasonable to conclude he had some asbestos exposure during his Navy service and remanded for a medical opinion regarding the possible nexus between asbestos exposure and his chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

- Service Jun 1961-May 1965; remand decided 2012
- Population
- One veteran (engineman); claimed asbestos removal aboard ship
- Limitations
- REMAND - no final causation finding; classified at the less-final stage per house rules. The exposure concession applies to the veteran's years of service generally, not to USS Fremont specifically (he served on multiple ships), and identifies no asbestos products aboard this hull. No follow-up final decision to this remand was located.

- Citation Nr. 0602048 (va.gov/vetapp06)

- historical_record
- Finding
- A cause-of-death claim for a veteran who served aboard USS Fremont in the latter half of 1967 (service November 1942-November 1969; died March 1998). The Board remanded and directed the examiner to consider in-service asbestos exposure, noting that VA recognizes asbestos was used extensively in military ship construction during World War II, that disease-causing exposure may be brief and/or indirect, that asbestos can in some cases produce cancers of the larynx and pharynx, and that the latency period ranges 10-45 years or more (citing VBA Adjudication Procedure Manual M21-1MR, Part IV, ch. 2, para. 9).

- Population
- One veteran (deceased; oropharyngeal cancer)
- Limitations
- REMAND - a development order, not a determination on the merits; classified at the less-final stage. The asbestos guidance cited is era-level (WWII-era ship construction generally), not a finding that asbestos was present aboard this hull. No final decision following this remand was located.
