    Finding
DANFS record for this hull is a one-line stub: 'The second Fulmar (AMS-47) was until 1 September 1947, YMS-193 (q.v.)' - published in DANFS Vol. II (p. 455) under 'Fulmar' ('An arctic sea bird found only beyond the 100-fathom curve') and carried verbatim on the NHHC online 'Fulmar II (AMS-47)' page (published 2015-07-09). The stub confirms the hull's identity chain (YMS-193 became Fulmar AMS-47 on 1947-09-01) but prints no construction dates, no spec block, and no service narrative for this hull; the print entry's only spec block belongs to the first Fulmar (AMC-46). The '(q.v.)' cross-reference to a YMS-193 entry has no corresponding standalone narrative in the print corpus (Vol. VIII searched; hazegray's DANFS transcriptions for both yms193.htm and ams47.htm carry only the same stub text).

    Limitations
DANFS documents only the identity chain and the 1947-09-01 renaming - not materials, service detail, or asbestos content; supports no asbestos claim. The '(q.v.)' implies a fuller YMS-193 entry that does not appear in the located print corpus - the stub is the entire DANFS coverage of this hull. Live NHHC URL serves 404 (standing link-rot defect); Wayback capture and print scan cited.

    Finding
NavSource record for this hull supplies the full milestone chain DANFS lacks: 'YMS-1 Class Auxiliary Motor Minesweeper: Laid down 31 October 1942 by the Greenport Basin and Construction Co., Greenport, Long Island, NY; Launched 2 January 1943; Completed 28 June 1943 and commissioned USS YMS-193; Reclassified as a Motor Minesweeper, named Fulmar (AMS 47), 1 September 1947 and placed in service as a Naval Reserve training ship in the 1st Naval District (Boston); Reclassified as a Coastal Minesweeper (Old), MSC(O)-47, 7 February 1955; Laid up in the Atlantic Reserve Fleet, Philadelphia Group; Struck from the Naval Register 1 October 1968; Sold 23 July 1969. Fate unknown.' Specifications: displacement 270 t.; 136' x 24'6" x 8' draft; 15 kts.; complement 32; one 3"/50 dual-purpose mount, two 20mm mounts, two depth-charge projectors; propulsion two 880-bhp General Motors 8-268A diesel engines, Snow and Knobstedt single reduction gear, two shafts; call sign November-Zulu-Hotel-Alpha. Commanding-officer roster: LT F. P. Comstock, USNR (1945); LCDR Claude Denis Gilcrist, USNR (1950 - 9 November 1950); LT Joseph Argonne Jackson, USN, USNA Class of 1946 (9 November 1950 - 15 November 1951); LT Leo Peter Bauerlein, USN (undated).

    Limitations
Volunteer-maintained archival compilation, not an official record - consistent with DANFS on the renaming date and with uboat.net on build/strike dates; no DANFS narrative exists against which to check its reserve-training and disposal detail. Contains no asbestos information; supports no asbestos claim. The diesel twin-screw plant detail is asbestos-relevant only as context - no boilers or steam system aboard. Conflicts carried in gaps: sale date 1969-07-23 vs Wikipedia's 'Sold, 1 October 1968'; engine rating 880 bhp vs Wikipedia's 1,000 shp.

    Finding
The Colton yard table for Greenport Basin & Construction Co., Greenport NY, independently lists this hull under its Royal Navy Lend-Lease contract designation: 'YMS 193 / J 993/BYMS 2193 / Royal Navy / Minesweeper / 278d / 136 ft / delivered 28-Jun-43 / Retained as Fulmar (AMS/MSC(O) 47), sold 1969' - i.e., this hull was ordered for the Royal Navy as BYMS-2193 (J-993) but retained by the U.S. Navy and never transferred, the same pattern as adjacent Greenport hull YMS-192 (BYMS-2192, retained as Condor AMS/MSC(O)-5, to Japan 1955). The delivery date (28-Jun-43) agrees with NavSource's completion/commissioning date. Yard history per Colton: Greenport Basin & Construction Company was started in the mid-19th century by Pliny C. and Theodore W. Brigham, building fishing vessels and yachts; during WWII they acquired their neighbor Greenport Shipyard Company and expanded into steel boatbuilding; the yard continues today as Greenport Yacht & Shipbuilding Company.

    Limitations
Compiled secondary reference, not an official record - consistent with NavSource on builder, delivery date, and the Fulmar AMS/MSC(O)-47 retention chain; the BYMS-2193/J-993 contract detail is Colton's and not independently confirmed against a contract document this session. Contains no asbestos or materials information; no yard asbestos record for Greenport Basin was located.

    Finding
NavSource photo captions place this hull at documented locations at both ends of its career. (1) National Archives photo 1045642 - port bow view of Fulmar underway at slow speed in the 1950s. (2) An August 1959 All Hands magazine U.S. Navy photo shows Fulmar nested with Tutuila (ARG 4), Peregrine (AM 373), Hawk (AMS 17), Lapwing (AMS 48), and Cardinal (AMS 4). (3) An official U.S. Navy photo dated 20 January 1969 shows Fulmar 'berthed at the U.S. Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility (NISMF), Philadelphia Naval Shipyard,' pictured in a nest with Lorikeet (MSC[O] 49), Plover (MSC[O] 33), and six sister MSC(O)s - taken by the shipyard for use in the sales catalog (a copy of which was later found aboard headquarters ship Chandeleur AV-10 at NISMF in early 1971). The Philadelphia berthing documents this hull physically inside Philadelphia Naval Shipyard - a yard whose Atlas record (shipyards.json 'philadelphia-naval-shipyard', tier 3) documents asbestos products (Eagle-Picher Super 60, Thermasil pipe covering, Unibestos, Kaylo, Garlock gaskets/packing, Johns-Manville insulation and others) and a 2014 shipfitter mesothelioma verdict (Merwitz, $7.25M). Fulmar's presence there was as an inactive sales-pending hulk, not an availability - no work aboard is documented.

    Finding
Era/class context: the Navy's own disposal EIS states asbestos-containing material 'is found throughout Navy ships in insulating materials on piping systems, in electrical cables, and on ship structures,' and the 2012 companion EA states 'asbestos insulation is commonly found in older ships' - era-generic statements covering a 1942-43 Navy build; Corn & Starr document extensive asbestos use as fireproofing and insulation in WWII-era U.S. shipbuilding; and NAVSEA's FOIA index lists the qualified asbestos product categories in force during this hull's era (asbestos-rod packing; metallic-asbestos spiral-wound gaskets; asbestos-fiber thermal insulation felt; magnesia-aggregate deck covering; thermal pipe-covering; preformed cable packing). This hull was a YMS-1-class wooden-hulled motor minesweeper with a diesel plant (two GM 8-268A diesels, twin screw - no boilers, no steam system), so the era-typical asbestos footprint is materially smaller than a steam combatant's - principally engine exhaust lagging, valve/flange gaskets, pump and shaft packing, electrical cable insulation, deck coverings, and winch/windlass brake linings.

No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, docketed case, or VA decision naming YMS-193, AMS-47, MSC(O)-47, or USS Fulmar was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). CourtListener queries executed under the fleet pacing budget returned: count 0 for exact phrase 'USS Fulmar' (opinions); count 1 for the designator OR-query '"AMS-47" OR "YMS-193" OR "MSC(O)-47" OR "MSC-47"' - a name collision (United States v. Scheuerman, 67 M.J. 709, Army Court of Criminal Appeals 2009, an AWOL court-martial with incidental string match, no vessel reference); 20 'Fulmar' opinion hits, all collisions (Fulmar Paraguaya Line shipping company, Folmar & Associates law firm, persons surnamed Fulmar/Folmar, Fulmar street names, the northern fulmar seabird in environmental cases); and a 'Fulmar' docket sweep returning 101 hits whose examined result pages were all collisions (Seabulk Fulmar, Inc. - a different-vessel marine company - Gunther v. Fulmar, environmental dockets naming the seabird). No qualifying asbestos litigation or any vessel-reference litigation naming this hull was located.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - era materials in a 1943 diesel minesweeper would still be consistent with class inference. CourtListener coverage was complete for the executed queries but unindexed, settled, or unreported matters naming this hull could exist. The VA BVA search interface was not reachable through available channels this session (JS-gated; API requires a key) - logged as blocked, not as a negative result. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
