- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- DANFS identifies LSMR-504 as laid down 24 March 1945 by Brown Shipbuilding Co., Houston, Texas; launched 21 April 1945; commissioned 11 June 1945 with Lt. Leslie W. Bolon in command; complement 138; departed Houston 18 June via Galveston for Charleston, arrived 28 June, proceeded to Little Creek 16 July, operated in Chesapeake Bay and along the Virginia coast, sailed for the West Coast 7 August, reached San Diego 29 August, and operated with LSMR Squadron 3 along southern California. It joined the 19th Fleet 4 March 1946, steamed to Astoria from 18 to 22 March for Columbia River Group duty, decommissioned 11 May 1946 into the Pacific Reserve Fleet, was named Gila River 1 October 1955, struck from the Navy List 1 February 1960, and sold to Zidell Exploration Corp., Portland, Oregon, on 7 July 1960.

- Population
- Brown Shipbuilding construction workforce; ship's company and reserve-fleet caretakers, 1945-1960
- Limitations
- Archived DANFS copy is the verification surface because the live NHHC page was dead at research time. This historical entry does not document asbestos, insulation, hazmat condition, individual exposure, or causation. It resolves the batch prompt's conflicting date: 24 March 1945 is the laid-down date, not the commissioning date.

[3]NavSource Online, Amphibious Photo Archive, LSM(R)-504 Gila River page (live page verified HTTP 200) [museum_official]
- Locator
- NavSource 10/06/06504.htm page and LSM index entry
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- NavSource's index identifies LSM(R)-504 as Gila River and places it in the LSM(R)-501 rocket-landing-ship family. The exact hull page is a ship-specific photographic/archive lead; it does not establish asbestos content aboard this hull.

- Navy archival/photo record
- Limitations
- Used as an official-archive lead for identity and family naming, not as an asbestos finding. NavSource is not a Navy registry, and the page's historical content must not be upgraded into a ship-specific material or exposure claim.

[4]National Archives, Ship Plan Index (live page verified HTTP 200) [other_primary]
- Locator
- NARA Ship Plan Index search for LSMR-504 and Gila River
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- The National Archives ship-plan index was searched for LSMR-504 and Gila River; no located indexed result supplied a ship-specific asbestos plan, survey, or material inventory for this hull.

- Limitations
- Negative index result is an archival lead, not proof that no plans exist. The index does not establish asbestos presence or absence and does not substitute for an archival series-level search.

[5]CourtListener API v4 via authenticated cl-auth-search.py; exact-name and hull-number requests were emitted but stood down by the fleet pacing limiter before results returned [other_primary]
- Locator
- Authenticated helper output: fleet-wide request budget momentarily spent; no result returned
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No litigation classification is assigned because the required CourtListener exact-name and hull-number searches were blocked by the authenticated fleet pacing stand-down; this is an incomplete sweep, not a no-result finding.

- Limitations
- The request was authenticated and made through the required helper. No anonymous, raw, or v3 request was used. Do not treat this row as evidence that qualifying asbestos litigation does not exist; the gap is recorded in search_ledger and the batch report.

[6]Research sweep of NHHC/DANFS, NARA, Naval Vessel Register/ship-history leads, NPS, official archive pages, and authoritative asbestos-source leads [other_primary]
- Locator
- Batch search ledger and source-by-source exclusions in BATCH-5863-REPORT.md
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos documentation was located for USS Gila River / LSMR-504: no survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, product inventory, or primary-source exposure record. Asbestos aboard this hull remains unknown; the 1945 construction date supplies era context only.

- Limitations
- A negative public-source search does not prove absence of asbestos. Class, construction era, diesel machinery, or general Navy asbestos use cannot be converted into a ship-specific finding, product identification, quantity, remaining-material statement, exposure conclusion, or legal eligibility.
