- DANFS Gladwyne entry: specification line and service narrative
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- DANFS identifies Gladwyne (PF-62), formerly Worcester: launched 7 January 1944 by Globe Shipbuilding Co., Superior, Wisconsin; commissioned 21 November 1944 with Lt. Comdr. R. G. Miller, USCG, in command. After shakedown, she escorted two round-trip transatlantic convoys to Oran, Algeria, between 6 February and 4 May 1945; departed Boston 31 July via Panama; reached Majuro 5 September; conducted plane-guard duty at Majuro and Kwajalein, then weather-station patrol; moored San Francisco 9 April 1946; decommissioned 15 April 1946; struck 8 October 1946; and sold to Mexico on 24 November 1947 as Papaloapan. DANFS states Mexico disposed of her in 1965. Its specification line gives Tacoma class, 20.3 knots, and complement 214.

- Limitations
- DANFS documents history and general specifications, not asbestos content, products, condition, quantity, abatement, or individual exposure. The cited page is a live transcription, not represented as a live NHHC page. Mexican disposal year conflicts with NavSource and is carried in gaps.

- NavSource PF-62 page: introductory chronology and specifications
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The live NavSource record corroborates authorization as PG-170, reclassification as PF-62 on 15 April 1943, laying down at Globe Shipbuilding on 14 October 1943, launch on 7 January 1944, renaming to Gladwyne, commissioning 21 November 1944, decommissioning at San Francisco 15 April 1946, striking on 8 October 1946, and 24 November 1947 transfer to Mexico as ARM Papaloapan. Its class specification lists two 3-drum express boilers and two 5,500-ihp vertical triple-expansion Diamond Iron Works steam engines on two shafts, 20.3 knots, and complement 176. It says Mexico disposed of Papaloapan in 1968.

- Limitations
- NavSource is a photographic archive, not a Navy materials record. It corroborates chronology and machinery configuration but does not establish asbestos aboard this hull, products, quantity, abatement, exposure, or legal eligibility. Complement and Mexican-disposal year conflict with DANFS and are carried in gaps.

- Moberly DANFS service narrative, Pacific weather-station/plane-guard paragraph
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- NHHC's live Moberly (PF-63) history independently names Gladwyne (PF-62): Moberly and Gladwyne sailed to the Marshall Islands for weather-station and plane-guard patrols, reached Majuro on 5 September, and alternated their assigned area from Majuro and later Kwajalein during the next six months.

- This is a cross-reference in a sister ship's official history, not Gladwyne's own DANFS entry. It documents operations only and provides no materials, asbestos, condition, exposure, or litigation evidence.

[5]NavSource PF-62 specifications together with DANFS construction/service record [other_primary]
- Locator
- NavSource PF-62 specifications; DANFS construction/class line
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- Class/era context only: Gladwyne was a 1943-44 Maritime Commission-contract Tacoma-class patrol frigate with a two-boiler, twin vertical triple-expansion steam plant. Comparable period U.S. steam-ship construction may have used boiler and steam-line insulation, gaskets, packing, and compartment fireproofing containing asbestos.

- Limitations
- Inference from class, era, and machinery type only. No hull-specific survey, material specification, contract drawing, abatement record, government survey, or other record establishes asbestos aboard Gladwyne, product identity, amount, location, condition, exposure, or legal eligibility.

- Locator
- search_ledger rows sl-uss-gladwyne-pf62-01 through sl-uss-gladwyne-pf62-07
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record was located in the completed research: no public asbestos survey, material inventory, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, government survey, or official museum record names USS Gladwyne (PF-62). CourtListener is excluded from this negative finding because its required sweep is incomplete: the first authenticated base query entered the fleet pacing queue without a result, and the remaining three base queries were not sent.

- Absence of located public documentation is not proof of absence of asbestos. This row makes no litigation conclusion and does not support an inference about exposure.

- Finding type

- Finding
- NARA identifies the RG 24 1941-1959 Navy deck-log series at Archives II, College Park. Gladwyne's 1944-46 logs are an archival lead for operations, engineering-space work, repairs, and weather-station service; digitization and specific file availability for PF-62 were not established.
