Glennon; commissioned 8 October 1942, Lt. Comdr. Floyd C. Camp. Sicily occupation convoy guard 9-15 July 1943; Atlantic/Gibraltar convoy escort through April 1944; Assault Force 'U', Western Naval Task Force, Baie de la Seine 6 June 1944; 430 5-inch shells fired in support 7 June; stern struck a mine 0830, 8 June (per DANFS) under Comdr. Clifford A. Limitations
DANFS documents service history and specifications, not materials or asbestos content. Spec block carries no laid-down date and no stricken date (both carried from NavSource, ev-03). Mine-strike time 0830 conflicts with the commanding officer's 0803 (ev-02) - discrepancy logged, not reconciled. Mirror transcription cited because live NHHC pages return 404.

Firsthand account by the ship's last commanding officer: ship strafed in Palermo harbor 31 July 1943 (16 wounded); seventeen convoy crossings completed with no escorted ship lost; departed New York 6 May 1944 with Destroyer Squadron 17 and USS Plunkett escorting USS Quincy; Belfast staging; led the Utah-beach shore-bombardment group approach; mine detonation under the port quarter at 0803 on 8 June 1944, after section parting ~50 feet from the stern; salvage attempts (tow, shaft-cutting plan) overruled then partially reinstated; ~60-man crew reboarded 9 June; German battery opened fire ~0700 on 10 June, second salvo hit the after engine room; eleven shell hits ultimately counted; abandon-ship by LCM; ship listed heavily ~2200 and sank shortly thereafter.

    Finding
Era/yard inference: DD-620 was built at Federal Shipbuilding, Kearny, during the yard's wartime destroyer run (yard hull 224, delivered 8 Oct 1942 per shipbuildinghistory.com hull list). The Atlas yard record documents an Owens-Illinois industrial health survey of that same yard (Aug 30-Sep 2, 1944) recording insulators cutting and fitting Johns-Manville Superex asbestos pipe covering and boiler insulation in confined spaces - the yard environment in which this hull was built two years earlier. A Gleaves-class hull carried 4 Babcock & Wilcox superheated boilers and geared steam turbines (~50,000 shp), machinery of the era standardly fitted with asbestos insulation, lagging, gaskets, packing, and fireproofing.

Class/era and builder-yard inference only - the 1944 survey postdates this hull's 1942 construction and documents yard practice, not this ship's bill of materials. No contract spec, material schedule, or hull survey names DD-620. Not a ship-specific finding.

228-page compiled collection reproducing official records for this hull: commissioning muster roll (plankowners, 10/8/42) and officer lists; action reports for Sicily gunfire support (7/11/43) and the Palermo air raid (8/1/43); war diaries (10/21-22/43 Murphy rescue; 6/6-8/44); the Operation Neptune loss-of-ship action report (14 sheets / 24 sides); Lt.(jg) Gustavus R. Ide Jr. narrative; 6/8/44 muster roll; and the Johnson narrative also transcribed on HyperWar. Its photo index also places the ship at New York Navy Yard on 10/22/42 (post-commissioning availability window), the basis for the brooklyn-navy-yard related_shipyards link. The loss action report and war diaries are the authoritative records of the sinking; NARA RG 38 (action reports/war diaries) and RG 19 General Information Books are the underlying repositories for any hull-level material specifications.

    Finding
Litigation sweep for this hull: zero CourtListener opinion hits for 'USS Glennon'; one RECAP docket match, Tilford v. Crane Company (D. Haw. 2017-2019), an asbestos personal-injury removal action in which 'USS Glennon' appears in indexed docket text. Hull attribution unresolved - 'USS Glennon' in a 2017-vintage asbestos complaint could name DD-620 (in service 1942-44) or DD-840 (Gearing class, in service 1945-76); given latency, a postwar-service hull (DD-840) is the more plausible referent in modern litigation. No qualifying asbestos litigation naming DD-620 was located.

At most a pleading-stage vessel reference inside a removal docket; unadjudicated and hull-unattributed (DD-620 vs DD-840 collision unresolved - complaint attachment not in RECAP, only the 8-page notice of removal is). A docket-text name match is not a finding that this hull contained asbestos or exposed anyone.

    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, material inventory, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or docketed exposure case naming DD-620 was found in the public sources searched (see search_ledger). The hull sank in 1944 and was never decommissioned, laid up, preserved, or scrapped at a yard - the usual sources of later asbestos documentation do not exist for this vessel.

Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - era/yard evidence (ev-05) is consistent with standard wartime asbestos insulation practice. Does not establish that asbestos is or is not present; does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
