- Limitations
- The 1967 engine and complement particulars describe the cutter period, not necessarily every Navy-era configuration. The page gives no asbestos inventory, survey, or abatement history; sale for scrap does not establish the completion date of physical dismantling.

- Locator
- Shipbuilding and repairing—historical contact with asbestos in shipyard work, lines 1749-1755 of online text
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- In its 1994 asbestos rulemaking, OSHA described extensive asbestos use aboard American ships from the early 1940s through the late 1970s, including insulation and joiner materials, and identified ship repair and overhaul as possible exposure settings. This is fleet-era context for researching a ship launched in 1942 and in service through 1969.

- Limitations
- OSHA does not name Half Moon, her class, builder, or any installed product aboard this hull. Its broad pre-1975 statement is not a ship-specific finding and cannot establish exposure to any individual. Boiler-insulation examples must not be attributed to this diesel-propelled ship.

- HALF MOON rows for AVP-26 and WHEC 378; research guide https://www.archives.gov/research/military/navy/guided-topics/asbestos, Ship Engineering Drawings section
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- NARA's Ship Plan Index lists Half Moon AVP-26 under RG 19 Hull Series of Ship Engineering Drawings (NAID 153714265) and microfilm (NAID 175669299), and Half Moon WHEC 378 under RG 26 Cutter Plans After 1915 (NAID 175671505). NARA's asbestos research guide directs researchers to S39 insulation and lagging and, where available, S48 piping plans.

- Limitations
- The index proves only that drawing collections are indexed for this hull. The underlying plans and S39/S48 sheets were not inspected; their presence and any asbestos notation are unknown. The index also has an AVD-26 row under this name, which was excluded as a designation mismatch.

- Locator
- Search ledger in this record; source scope and queries recorded there
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- The reviewed DANFS, Coast Guard history, NARA index and publicly indexed source searches did not yield a ship-specific asbestos inventory, survey, specification, or abatement record for Half Moon.

- Limitations
- A negative search result in the reviewed public material is not evidence that asbestos was absent. Indexed plans and original Coast Guard files remain unexamined; asbestos presence, products, quantities, and individual exposures remain unknown.

[6]CourtListener authenticated v4 search API, via fleet helper; Batch 3058 search ledger [court_record]
- Locator
- Search ledger rows sl-uss-half-moon-avp26-06 through -14; individual collision URLs in rows -10 through -14
- Finding type
- litigation_documented
- Finding
- Authenticated CourtListener v4 searches returned zero opinion results for the exact name "USS Half Moon" and hull number "AVP-26", and zero docket results for the exact name. The hull-number docket query returned five records; case names and subjects identify all five as unrelated search collisions, with no record identifying this vessel or alleging asbestos exposure aboard her.

- Limitations
- This is an indexed CourtListener search result, not a finding that no litigation exists in any court. The five unrelated cases are classified from their indexed titles, suit natures, and returned document snippets; their full dockets were not reviewed. No claim of vessel exposure or a judicial ruling is inferred.
