Consolidated Steel Orange construction trades 1941-43; wartime crew (design complement 273)
    Limitations
DANFS documents service history and specifications, not materials or asbestos content. The classic transcription does not give a laid-down date and ends at her 1946 reserve berthing ('transferred to Orange, Tex., where she remains'); stricken (1968-05-01), Mexican transfer (1970-08-19), and disposal (1982) dates rest on secondary compilations (NavSource/navypedia). Mirror transcription cited because the live NHHC page returns 404.

Official U.S. Navy photograph (Charleston Naval Shipyard file 15377) dated 28 April 1943, a stern view of DD-573 - documents this hull physically at the Charleston Navy Yard during its April 1943 period, corroborating the DANFS narrative (New York 6 April, Charleston two days later).

Charleston Navy Yard workers (April 1943 yard period)
    Limitations
Documents the hull's presence at the yard on one date; the work performed, if any beyond routine availability, is not described, and the record contains no asbestos or materials information. A second, longer Charleston period (Nov 1945-Apr 1946 inactivation) rests on DANFS alone.

  4. [4]DANFS spec block (Fletcher class, 35 kt, cpl 273) + Fletcher-class technical block (4 Babcock & Wilcox boilers, 2 GE geared steam turbines, 60,000 shp - BuShips Ships Data 1945/navypedia per fletcher-class.class.json); Atlas shipyard dataset checked - no Consolidated Steel Orange entry [other_primary]

    Finding
Era/yard inference: a Fletcher-class destroyer built 1941-43 at Consolidated Steel, Orange, TX with the class-standard four-boiler geared-steam-turbine plant (60,000 shp, ~35 kt) would have carried period-standard asbestos insulation - boiler and steam-line lagging, turbine lagging, gaskets, packing, fireproofing, and deck coverings. The 1941-43 build falls inside the Navy's documented peak asbestos-use era (GAO HRD-80-2: substitution not begun until the early 1970s).

Consolidated Steel Orange construction trades 1941-43; crew 1943-46
    Limitations
Class/era and builder inference only - NOT a hull-specific finding. Consolidated Steel Orange is not in the Atlas shipyards.json dataset, so no yard-level asbestos record could be cross-referenced; GAO HRD-80-2 is program-level and its full text is fetch-blocked (HTTP 403 per batch-01). Does not quantify material aboard or establish any individual's exposure.

    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located for DD-573: no ACM survey, abatement contract, museum hazmat disclosure, NHL/NPS record, or qualifying asbestos litigation names this hull in the sources searched. The hull's disposition path (1946 reserve at Orange, Tex. -> 1968 strike -> 1970 sale to Mexico -> 1982 dismantling) left no museum or federal custodian that would generate such records.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - a 1941-43 steam destroyer of this class is era-consistent with asbestos insulation. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility; non-indexed state-court and asbestos-trust claims lie outside this sweep's coverage.

  6. [6]CourtListener API v4 sweeps (authenticated, fleet-paced): 'USS Harrison' type=o = 0 hits; 'U.S.S. Harrison' type=o = 0; 'DD-573' type=o = 0; 'USS Harrison' type=r = 0 dockets; 'DD-573' type=r = 0 dockets; 'Harrison' + asbestos type=o returned hits that are surname/law-firm collisions on review; 'aboard the Harrison' type=o blocked by fleet pacing after 3 spaced attempts [court_record]

    Finding type
    litigation_documented
    Finding
No qualifying asbestos litigation naming DD-573 located in CourtListener: every exact-name and hull-number query across the opinion and RECAP docket indexes returned zero hits. The wide-net 'Harrison' + asbestos opinion query returns surname and law-firm collisions only (e.g., 'Wexler, Reynolds, Harrison & Schule' inside In re Johns-Manville Corp., Bankr. S.D.N.Y. 1986; a North Carolina Industrial Commission workers' compensation decision) - no hit names the vessel.

    Limitations
Sweep coverage, not a merits finding: opinion-index zeroes support 'no published opinion names this hull', but pleadings naming the hull without a published opinion would not surface at type=o, and non-indexed state-court dockets and asbestos trust claims are outside coverage. 'aboard the Harrison' (type=o) was not completed this session - fleet pacing blocked three spaced attempts; logged honestly rather than retried into a ban.
