- DANFS service narrative, paragraphs covering 1944-1951
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- After shakedown, Hoquiam departed San Francisco on 20 August 1944 and arrived at Kodiak on 27 August for Alaskan Sea Frontier duty. She patrolled Alaskan island waters, returned to Seattle for overhaul in June 1945, decommissioned at Cold Bay on 16 August 1945, and transferred to Russia under lend-lease the same day. Returned to the U.S. Navy at Yokosuka on 1 November 1949, she recommissioned on 27 September 1950, served in Korean waters, decommissioned on 8 October 1951, and was leased to the Republic of Korea as Nae Tong (PF-65).

- Population
- Hoquiam crew, Alaskan Sea Frontier and Korean-war personnel
- Limitations
- The DANFS entry gives 8 October 1951 for the second decommissioning; the Coast Guard history gives 5 October 1951. The conflict is retained as a gap rather than resolved by inference. Neither source documents asbestos.

- History and specifications sections
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The Coast Guard's ship history identifies Hoquiam as Coast Guard-manned while commissioned in the Navy, built by Kaiser Cargo in Richmond, California, with two-shaft VTE propulsion and three boilers, a 190-person complement, and Navy commissioning on 8 May 1944. It reports decommissioning on 16 August 1945 and transfer to Russia, return on 1 November 1949, recommissioning on 27 September 1950, and decommissioning on 5 October 1951 before Korean transfer.

- Coast Guard-manned Navy crew and shipyard personnel
- Limitations
- This source corroborates ship identity, manning, propulsion, and dates but does not establish asbestos aboard this hull. The 5 October 1951 date conflicts with DANFS's 8 October date.

- Archive header and vessel timeline
- Finding type
- vessel_history
- Finding
- The NavSource archive identifies the same hull as ex-PG-113 and PF-5, records the 10 April 1943 laying-down date, 15 April 1943 reclassification to PF-5, 31 July 1943 launch, 8 May 1944 commissioning, 16 August 1945 decommissioning and Soviet lend-lease, 1 November 1949 return, 27 September 1950 recommissioning, 5 October 1951 decommissioning, Korean designation Nae Tong (PF-65), and 1 August 1972 striking from the Navy Register.

- Limitations
- Used to verify the PG-113/PF-5 identity consolidation and designation timeline. NavSource is an archival compilation and does not establish asbestos content; its final Korean-service disposal statement is not used to supply a scrapping date.

- Finding type
- gov_survey
- Finding
- GAO's Navy-wide program review documents extensive Navy use of asbestos insulation aboard ships and the later substitution of alternatives beginning in the early 1970s, providing era context for a 1943-44 naval construction and 1944-51 service period.

- Population
- Navy shipyard and shipboard workforces
- Limitations
- Program-level evidence only. It does not identify Hoquiam, a Tacoma-class frigate, a particular compartment, product, quantity, or individual exposure. The GAO product page was used; no ship-specific conclusion is drawn.

[7]Authenticated CourtListener API v4 base-query sweep performed through cl-auth-search.py; no qualifying asbestos-litigation hit was identified for this hull in the four required base searches. [court_record]
- Locator
- search_ledger sl-uss-hoquiam-pf5-cl-01 through -04
- Finding type
- historical_record
- Finding
- No qualifying asbestos litigation naming USS Hoquiam, PG-113, PF-5, or a clearly identified Hoquiam plaintiff/vessel record was located in the required base-query sweep. This is a search result, not proof that no litigation exists.

- Limitations
- CourtListener results are repository-limited and a name/hull-number match would require case-level classification. No asbestos-qualified variants were run because no verified high-collision overflow condition was established. The search ledger preserves the four base queries.

- Locator
- Research gaps and source inventory in BATCH-8455-REPORT.md
- Finding type
- asbestos_application
- Finding
- No ship-specific asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or primary material record for Hoquiam was located in the sources reviewed. The record is therefore classified at class_or_era rather than ship_specific asbestos documentation.

- Limitations
- A negative public-source result does not establish absence of asbestos aboard the vessel and does not defeat an exposure claim. Construction drawings, Navy work packages, deck logs, and foreign-transfer records were not located in digitized form.
