- Finding
- NHHC identifies Hovey as Clemson-class DD-208, built by William Cramp & Sons in Philadelphia, launched 26 April 1919, commissioned 2 October 1919, decommissioned 1 February 1923, and recommissioned 20 February 1930. It gives a 167-person design complement. It records her conversion and reclassification as high-speed minesweeper DMS-11 on 19 November 1940, subsequent Pacific operations, and loss by aerial torpedo on 7 January 1945 at Lingayen Gulf.

- Finding
- NHHC's official Hovey photo catalog identifies photographs of this hull at Mare Island Navy Yard in May 1943, consistent with the DANFS account of a 1943 overhaul. The photographs establish the yard visit, not the work materials.

- Finding
- NARA's naval asbestos research guide identifies RG 19 destroyer General Information Books (Entry P 9), S39 insulation and lagging drawings in the hull-number engineering-drawing series, and RG 38 destroyer inspection reports (Entry P 1-D) as possible routes to a hull-specific material finding. No Hovey item from these series was retrieved in this review.

- PDF pages 10-12, enclosure I
- Finding type

- Finding
- A 1979 Navy response reproduced by GAO described asbestos in Navy shipboard thermal insulation, gaskets, packing, and other applications, and explained that eliminating asbestos thermal insulation required ship- or class-level decisions. It provides later Navy-wide material context only.

- DANFS final action paragraph; H-Gram 040, Lingayen Gulf, 7–8 January 1945
