    Finding
Ideal (AMc-85), a single-screw wooden-hulled coastal minesweeper of the Accentor class, was laid down 4 June 1941 at Warren, R.I., by Warren Boat Yard; launched 20 September 1941; sponsored by Miss Edith C. Alder; and placed in service at Boston 24 April 1942. Specifications: displacement 195 tons, length 97'1", beam 22'0", draft 9'1", speed 10 knots, complement 17, armament 2 .50-caliber machine guns and 1 .45-caliber Thompson sub-machine gun. After shakedown out of Boston, Ideal reported to the Mine Warfare School, Yorktown, Va., 11 May 1942, and subsequently served in the Eighth Naval District at Burrwood, La., and in the Fifth Naval District as a mine warfare training ship. She returned to Norfolk 26 May 1946 and was decommissioned there 10 June 1946, then turned over to the Maritime Commission for disposal in late December 1946.

    Limitations
Documents identity, construction, specifications, and service/training-ship history only; contains no asbestos, machinery, or engine-type information whatsoever. The live NHHC page (and the history.navy.mil domain generally) returned HTTP 404 to both the WebFetch tool and direct curl requests from this research environment on 2026-09-23, despite the URL being the canonical citation used by prior Atlas batches for this same entry format; text above was corroborated across multiple independent search-engine index snapshots that reproduced consistent verbatim phrasing, and separately via Wikipedia's direct transcription of the same DANFS text (used only for cross-checking, not as a citation). The exact date the ship was turned over to the Maritime Commission is inconsistently transcribed across sources as either 26 December 1946 or 28 December 1946; this could not be resolved against the primary page and is carried in gaps rather than asserted to the day.

    Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos or litigation record located: CourtListener opinion-type searches for "USS Ideal AMc-85", "USS Ideal", and "AMc-85" (exact phrase) each returned zero results; a docket-type search for "USS Ideal" returned zero results; a docket-type search for "AMc-85" (exact phrase) surfaced only an unrelated FTX Trading Ltd. bankruptcy filing (a false positive with no connection to this vessel) before the fleet-wide CourtListener request budget paused further review. The vessel is not listed in the Naval Vessel Register. No survey, abatement record, or hazmat disclosure was located because no post-disposal owner, museum, or preservation entity for this hull could be identified.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard this vessel during its 1941-1946 Navy service - it reflects the absence of any surviving, indexed, public documentation to evaluate either way. The CourtListener docket-type sweep for the exact hull number was not exhaustively paginated due to the shared fleet-wide pacing limit on the authenticated search helper; the single page reviewed showed no genuine match. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
