- DANFS: 'Jacana (MSC-193) was launched as AMS-193 25 February 1954 by Quincy Adams Yacht Yard, Quincy, Mass.; sponsored by Mrs. Dorothy M. Deehan; reclassified MSC-193 on 7 February 1955; and commissioned 10 March 1955, Lt. (j.g.) W. W. Jordan in command.' After shakedown she arrived Charleston, S.C., home port, 28 May 1955; moved to Yorktown, Va., 18 January 1957 for Chesapeake Bay mine warfare exercises; performed search-and-rescue missions and amphibious exercises off Onslow Beach; on 28 April 1962 proceeded to Port Everglades, Fla., for Naval Ordnance Laboratory Test Facility duty; after her mine-evaluating mission and Caribbean exercises sailed for Halifax late September 1962 for joint American-Canadian maneuvers; remained on alert through November during the Cuban crisis. From 1963 into 1967 she operated along the Atlantic coast on mine exercises, amphibious training, SAR, and duty with the Naval Mine Defense Laboratory in Florida. DANFS stats line: 'dp. 290, l. 44', b. 28', dr. 9', s. 13 k.; cpl. 39, a. 2 20mm.; cl. Bluebird.'

- Limitations
- Establishes identity and service chronology only - DANFS contains no asbestos, insulation, or materials content and supports no exposure finding. DANFS's 'launched 25 February 1954' conflicts with the four-source consensus launch date 25 February 1955 (it omits the 26 February 1954 laying down; the year appears transposed) - see ev-08. Stats-line 'l. 44'' is an evident typo for 144'; 'dp. 290' differs from NavSource's 362 t.

Fate unknown.' Specifications: displacement 362 t.; length 144'3"; beam 27'2"; draft 12'; speed 13.6 kts.; complement 39; armament two .50 cal. machine guns and one 81mm mortar; propulsion two 600shp Packard diesel engines, two shafts. Commanding-officer list runs nine entries through LT Emidio Joseph Merlino (officer-in-charge) from 26 September 1968, consistent with reduced status before transfer.

- Finding
- The Quincy Adams Yacht Yard production table lists MSC-193 'Jacana', U.S. Navy minesweeper (390-day contract), entering service 10 March 1955, 'to Indonesia 1971 as Pulau Aruan (M-718): struck 1976'. The yard history documents that the Quincy yard at 47 Palmer Street, Germantown, Quincy, MA - founded as F. D. Lawley, Inc. in 1906, sold to Harold Noyes in 1929 and renamed Quincy Adams Yacht Yard - built Navy minesweepers MSC-77/78, MSC-190 through MSC-194 (Falcon, Frigate Bird, Hummingbird, Jacana, Kingbird), and MSC-265-267. Yard closed 1968; the site is now condominiums.

- Finding type

- Finding
- SCB-69 ('Bluebird', foreign-transfer 'Adjutant') program documentation: these coastal minesweepers 'were essentially versions of the Second World War YMS, initially for transfer abroad under the MDAP programme', wooden-framed/hulled (US MSCs had wooden frames; British-built sisters used aluminium), diesel-powered - MSC-121/122/190-199 carried two Packard diesels totaling 1,200 bhp on two shafts - and built from 1953 onward, 159 units of which all but twenty were transferred. Navypedia's table row confirms MSC-193 Jacana: Quincy Adams, Quincy; laid down 2.1954; launched 25.2.1955; commissioned 3.1955; 'to Indonesia 1971 (718 Pulau Aruan)'. Asbestos-relevant inference only: a wooden-hulled diesel sweeper lacked boilers, steam drums, and steam-line lagging - the largest asbestos applications aboard steam-driven steel combatants - so era-typical asbestos aboard the type is limited to smaller items (engine/exhaust lagging, gaskets, packing, electrical insulation, friction materials, possible deck coverings).

- Limitations
- Class/program documentation, not a hull record - the program history does not name Jacana and states no materials manifest. The inference runs toward REDUCED asbestos scope relative to steam combatants; it cannot establish presence, absence, or quantity aboard this hull.

OGPe, P.R. 2024), Puerto Rico debt litigation (ACP Master; Aurelius Capital), and zoning/insurance cases - none involves the ship or asbestos. 'AMS-193' returned zero. 'MSC-193' returned one hit (Wiggins v. Safeco, Ohio App. 2019) - a homeowner's insurance declaratory-judgment dispute; collision. Docket searches: 'USS Jacana' zero; 'Jacana' 107 hits all collisions (Jacana Holdings PR-debt cases, personal names, unrelated full-text matches). Builder check 'Quincy Adams Yacht Yard' asbestos: zero. Sister-ship lead 'USS Phoebe'/'MSC-199' asbestos: zero.

Absence of a located case does not prove no claim was ever filed; classified at the least-final stage by design - a complaint would be an allegation, and none was even located.

- Archival lead (not retrieved): U.S. Navy deck logs for this vessel's service period (1955-1971) are held in RG 24 series 594258, arranged by hull number - this hull would be filed under MSC-193. Deck logs chronicle daily movements, operations, and personnel events; they could corroborate the Charleston/Yorktown/Caribbean chronology and any maintenance or repair events, but are not materials records.

- Finding
- Corrections resolved at document level: (a) Class metadata - this hull is a postwar SCB-69 coastal minesweeper (NavSource 'Falcon class'; DANFS/Navypedia 'Bluebird'; foreign-transfer family 'Adjutant'), NOT a WWII YMS-1-class vessel; the SCB-69s were new-construction derivatives of the YMS design built from 1953, not wartime YMS conversions - prior metadata association with YMS-1 corrected. (b) Launch date - DANFS 'launched as AMS-193 25 February 1954' conflicts with the consensus of NavSource, NavalCoverMuseum, Navypedia, and the yard table (laid down 26 February 1954, launched 25 February 1955); consensus adopted - DANFS omits the laying-down date and its year appears transposed. (c) Armament - DANFS 'a. 2 20mm' vs NavSource 'two .50 cal. machine guns and one 81mm mortar' vs a crewmember's published account (single WWII-vintage Oerlikon 20mm plus small arms, no 81mm mortar or .50 cal) - unresolved; none carried as definitive. (d) Propulsion - NavSource 'two 600shp Packard diesels' and Navypedia '2 Packard diesels, 1,200 bhp' vs Wikipedia infobox '4 x 600 hp, 2,400 hp' - NavSource/Navypedia adopted.

Armament divergence cannot be resolved without the ship's allowance/outfit lists; the crewmember account is non-authoritative and is used only to flag the conflict. No asbestos content in any reconciled source.
