    vessel_history
    Finding
The live PGM-35 archive page identifies this PGM-33-class craft as laid down by Georgia Shipbuilding at Savannah, Georgia; delivered 3 January 1955; transferred to the Philippines as RPS La Union (PG-50); later reclassified G-50; and decommissioned and struck from the Philippine Naval Register in 1974. The page reports displacement of 143 tons and that the fate is unknown.

Georgia Shipbuilding construction workforce; Philippine Navy crew (numbers not located)
    Limitations
NavSource is a volunteer historical archive, not an official registry. This page documents basic milestones only; it gives no commissioning date, propulsion or machinery specification, construction material list, asbestos survey, abatement, exposure, or final-disposition documentation.

    Finding type
    gov_survey
    Finding
GAO's Navy-wide review examined asbestos use in Navy ships and reported the Navy's 1975 policy: remove and replace with nonasbestos materials only insulation that was damaged or had to be removed for necessary repairs; the policy was modified in 1979 for selective replacement in high-maintenance areas.

    Population
Navy shipyard workers and ships reviewed at Long Beach and Norfolk Naval Shipyards
    Limitations
Program-level U.S. Navy policy, not documentation for PGM-35 or the Philippine Navy. It does not establish that asbestos was installed aboard this hull, identify any product or location, quantify material, establish exposure, or address legal eligibility.

  4. [4]Research ledger for USS PGM-35 / RPS La Union: live NavSource vessel and PGM-index pages; NHHC/DANFS availability check; NARA catalog query attempt; CourtListener authenticated base-query sweep via cl-auth-search.py [other_primary]
    Locator
    search_ledger rows sl-uss-la-union-pgm35-01 through -05
    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
No public ship-specific asbestos documentation was located in the sources completed: no asbestos survey, abatement record, hazardous-material disclosure, material list, or qualifying litigation result naming USS PGM-35 / RPS La Union was retrieved. NavSource explicitly reports that no DANFS history is available for PGM-35. CourtListener is not a negative result: all four required authenticated base queries were pacing-blocked before results were returned.

    Limitations
A lack of located public documentation does not prove absence of asbestos or exposure. The CourtListener gap remains open because the fleet-wide helper reported its paced budget was spent; no query results were available to classify. The source sweep did not retrieve Philippine Navy archives, builder specifications, transfer paperwork, or a final-disposition record.

    Locator
NARA RG 19 and related transfer records; Philippine Navy and Georgia Shipbuilding archives
    Finding type
    historical_record
    Finding
The principal leads for hull-specific material evidence are Bureau of Ships design/procurement and military-assistance transfer records, Georgia Shipbuilding construction records, and Philippine Navy records for RPS La Union's 1955-1974 service and disposal. These records were not located in digitized form in this research pass.

Archival lead only. The existence, completeness, and asbestos relevance of particular files are unverified; no finding about materials, exposure, or disposal may be inferred from this lead.
