    Finding
The NHHC Dictionary of American Naval Fighting Ships entry states that Fordham was a ferryboat built in 1922 by Kyle & Purdy at City Island, New York; it was taken over by the War Shipping Administration under bareboat charter on 1944-12-11. The Navy acquired it on 1945-01-06, placed it in service as YFB-58 at 10:00 a.m. that day, and named it Lacosta on 1945-03-13. It operated in New York Harbor until 1946-04-11, was placed out of service on 1946-06-03, and returned to its former owner on 1946-06-19. DANFS lists 190 gross tons, 129 net tons, length 84 ft 11 in, beam 26 ft 2 in, draft 7 ft 3 in, and no armament.

    Limitations
This is a historical service entry, not a construction specification, asbestos survey, abatement record, or disposition history after the 1946 return to the former owner. DANFS says ‘placed in service,’ not commissioned. No propulsion type or crew complement is stated in the entry.

    Finding
The reviewed DANFS entry contains no statement about asbestos, asbestos-containing materials, surveys, or abatement aboard Lacosta. This is a source-scoped absence of mention, not evidence that asbestos was absent from the vessel.

    Limitations
Only the content of this DANFS entry was reviewed for this finding. It does not establish that asbestos was absent, and it does not substitute for a vessel survey, maintenance file, or abatement record. CourtListener was not searched because the authenticated helper's fleet limiter refused the request before it reached the API.
