Bath Iron Works construction trades 1934-36; commissioning and wartime crew (complement 158 peacetime); overhaul-yard workers at Mare Island, Pearl Harbor, Puget Sound 1941-45
    Limitations
DANFS documents construction, service, and disposition - not materials or asbestos content. Yard periods are documented as events; their asbestos scope is inference only. Live NHHC URL 404s (standing NHHC link-rot, Batch-01 known issue); content verified against Wayback capture 2025-12-09. The legacy (1959-81) DANFS text printed the first CO as 'Haddock' and dated the sinking '2 July 1946'; the modern entry reads Paddock and 1 July 1946 - carried in gaps.

    Finding
NPS SCRU report documents this hull's loss context: drawing on the Joint Task Force One damage assessment, Lamson (DD-367) was moored 760 yards from the Able zeropoint and was one of five ships sunk by the 1 July 1946 air burst - 'the destroyers Anderson and Lamson, two of three destroyers anchored within the thousand-yard radius of the zeropoint, sank because of extensive hull damage'; Appendix I lists 'Lamson (DD-367) - Sunk by ABLE at Bikini, July 1, 1946.' The 1988-1990 NPS surveys did not relocate the wreck; the report presumes it lies in its original sinking position inside the lagoon's prohibited-zone quadrangle.

    Population
Post-sinking environment; 1946 target-ship crews were de-manned before detonation (Lamson's crew transferred to Henrico APA-45 on 30 June 1946 per DANFS)
    Limitations
Documents sinking mechanism and post-1946 wreck context, not asbestos content or crew-era exposure. The wreck's radiological environment (Bikini lagoon) is the documented hazard; no asbestos survey of the wreck exists or is possible to infer from this source. The wreck has since been located and is a technical dive site per non-authoritative dive literature - noted as context, not carried as a finding.

    Finding
Era/yard inference: a Mahan-class destroyer built 1934-36 with a four-boiler, high-pressure geared-turbine plant (465 psi-class machinery per class records; 49,000 shp) would have carried period-standard asbestos insulation on boilers, turbines, and steam lines, plus asbestos gaskets, packing, and fireproofing. Builder Bath Iron Works is documented at yard level in the Atlas dataset (tier 2): Kaylo pipe covering and other asbestos products are documented in the yard's product record, the 1942-conducted industrial-hygiene survey of naval-vessel pipe-covering operations (published 1946) covered the trade practice at issue, and OSHA cited asbestos-standard violations at the yard in 1987. NARA RG19 'General Information Books' per-vessel material specifications are the archival lead for hull-level confirmation.

    Limitations
Class/era and builder-yard inference only - no ship-specific source establishes asbestos aboard this hull, and the 1946 sinking foreclosed the survey/abatement records that document such content on surviving ships. The 1942 hygiene study describes yard pipe-covering practice, not this hull's outfit. NARA GIB retrieval not performed.

    Finding type
    litigation_documented
    Finding
No qualifying asbestos litigation naming this hull was located on CourtListener. 'USS Lamson' returned zero opinion hits and zero docket hits. 'DD-367' returned zero opinion hits; 18 docket hits were all name collisions on docket-number fragments (e.g., construction, ADA, contract dockets - no Navy/asbestos content). 'aboard the Lamson' returned zero. 'Lamson' + destroyer returned one opinion, Perrin v. Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corp., 871 F. Supp. 1092 (N.D. Iowa 1994) - a verified name collision on both terms: full-text review finds zero 'Lamson' occurrences in the opinion (the token matches defense firm Belin Harris Helmick Tesdell Lamson & McCormick in the indexed cluster attorneys field) and the 'destroyer' is USS Floyd B. Parks (DD-884), a Gearing-class ship aboard which the plaintiff served 1958-62. 'Lamson asbestos' returned 23 opinion hits, all surname or firm-name collisions. No hull-number litigation exists.

    n/a - no qualifying record
    Limitations
CourtListener coverage is opinions plus RECAP docket metadata; state-court pleadings and unindexed dockets are not searchable - absence is a research result, not proof no filing exists. Lamson is a low-collision ship name (DD-18 and DD-328 predeceased it; DD-367 was the only 'USS Lamson' extant in the asbestos-litigation era), so the sweep is comparatively clean. The one ambiguous hit (Perrin) was resolved by full-text review of opinion 8711486.

    Finding
The DoD Nuclear Test Personnel Review dose-reconstruction series includes a Lamson-specific participation summary among the 84 Crossroads target vessels, documenting the ship's target-array position and the reconstructed radiological environment at Bikini; DANFS confirms the crew was transferred off 30 June 1946 before the Able detonation. The documented post-sinking hazard at this hull is radiological (Bikini lagoon target array), not asbestos - no asbestos survey, abatement, or hazmat record for the hull exists in these sources.

Crossroads target-ship crew prior to de-manning; post-1946 lagoon environment
    Limitations
Radiological exposure reconstruction - materially different hazard from asbestos; carried as context bounding the wreck's contamination state and the exposure window (crew de-manned pre-detonation). Full text blocked to automated fetch (HTTP 403 at dtra.mil and DTIC, same standing block as Batch-01's GAO record); report existence, scope, and the Lamson summary sheet verified via catalog/TOC listings - content of the Lamson sheet itself not read.
