- DANFS documents service history and specifications, not materials, ACM, or asbestos content. The live page returns HTTP 404 to bare automated fetches (WAF behavior documented in BATCH-3113); the citation URL is the live canonical page, verified retrievable 2026-09-26. The hazegray DANFS mirror transcription reads 'commissioned 28 October 1918' against the live page's 26 October - a transcription typo carried in gaps, not the record.

- Finding
- Official NHHC photo-catalog description for this hull: '(Destroyer # 101/DM-6) Steaming at high speed on two boilers, circa 1921, following conversion to a light minelayer. The Mine Force emblem is painted on her bow, and mines are resting on their tracks aft. Though redesignated DM-6 in July 1920, Lansdale probably continued to wear her destroyer number for some years thereafter.' Independently confirms the 1920 light-minelayer conversion and documents the hull's fitted mine rails in service.

- Photographic catalog caption - documents configuration and markings, not materials, ACM, or asbestos content. The caption's 'two boilers' describes a cruising state of the four-boiler class plant, not the installed boiler count. Caption dates are 'circa 1921'.

[3]NARA Record Group 24 (Records of the Bureau of Naval Personnel), series 'Logs of U.S. naval ships and stations, 1801-1946' (72,500 vols.), finding aid Special List 44 [other_primary]

- Finding
- NARA RG 24 holds 'Logs of U.S. naval ships and stations, 1801-1946' (72,500 vols., 8,060 ft.), a series whose date span covers this hull's entire commissioned life (1918-1922 and 1930-1931, both pre-1941). NARA Special List 44 ('List of Logbooks of U.S. Navy Ships, Stations, and Miscellaneous Units, 1801-1947') indexes the individual volumes. These are the ship-specific contemporaneous records for the hull.

- Limitations
- Series-level description only. USS Lansdale's individual deck-log volumes were not located online and were not retrieved or reviewed; the series covers thousands of vessels and a specific pull requires a NARA request (Washington, DC for pre-1941 logs). Establishes nothing about materials or asbestos aboard this hull; deck logs rarely record insulation work in any case.

- Finding type
- litigation_documented
- Finding
- No qualifying asbestos litigation naming this hull was located. Exact-phrase "USS Lansdale" returned zero results in both opinions and dockets. "Lansdale destroyer" returned zero opinion results. Bare "Lansdale" (1,650 opinion hits) and "Lansdale asbestos" (34 opinion hits) returned only name collisions - Lansdale Borough, Pa. municipal litigation; attorneys located in Lansdale, Pa.; person surnames - with no reference to any U.S. Navy vessel in any result inspected (ship-term scan of all 34 asbestos-sweep hits: zero). "DD-101" returned zero opinion results; its 23 docket hits are substring collisions - 'Exhibit DD-101 (Sealed)'-type defense-exhibit numbering (e.g., Portier LLC v. City of New York S.D.N.Y.) - none referencing a vessel. "Lansdale asbestos" dockets (251 hits) are likewise name collisions (Lansdale Borough/businesses, surnames, incidental strings; the only 'uss' matches are attorney-name substrings like 'Russell'). Collision-hull check: the second USS Lansdale (DD-426, Benson-class, Boston Navy Yard 1940, sunk 20 April 1944 off Algiers) is the expected referent for any WWII-era 'Lansdale' litigation; a "DD-426" opinion query returned one hit that is the Florida appellate court's own docket number (Gibson v. Smith, No. DD-426, Fla. Dist. Ct. App. 1977) - no litigation naming either Lansdale hull was located.

- Limitations
- A public-index sweep confirms no located litigation naming this hull as of 2026-09-26; it does not prove no such litigation exists - PACER-gated dockets, sealed filings, and state-court records outside CourtListener's index are not searched. 'Lansdale' is a Pennsylvania borough name and a surname, so unqualified sweeps are collision-prone; the ship-qualified queries returned zero results attributable to any vessel (the 23 'DD-101' docket hits are defense-exhibit-numbering collisions and the lone 'DD-426' opinion hit is a court docket number - detailed in the finding). Sweep completed under repeated fleet pacing stand-downs (1-4 minute spacing; no retry loops). See search_ledger for exact queries and per-query results.

- Finding
- Era/class inference only: Lansdale was a Wickes-class 'flush-deck' steam-turbine destroyer of the Bethlehem Steel design variant ('Little' type), built 1918 by Fore River Shipbuilding Corp., Quincy - a WWI-era steam warship of a type whose class, as a whole, carried period-standard boiler and steam-line insulation, lagging, gaskets, packing, and fireproofing common to naval steam propulsion of the era. Builder Fore River is documented in the Atlas shipyard dataset (evidence tier 3) with asbestos products across boilers, pipes, turbines, gaskets, packing, and fireproofing - but that record's own evidence (pipefitter litigation 1967-70; Raybestos welding blankets 1940s) postdates this hull's 1918 construction and 1939 disposal by decades.

- Limitations
- Class/era and builder-yard inference only - no ship-specific finding is established by this row. This is not evidence that asbestos-containing material was installed, present, or handled aboard this specific hull; it does not identify products, quantities, or locations aboard USS Lansdale. The yard-level asbestos record postdates the hull's existence. No ship-specific asbestos documentation exists for this hull (see ev-04, negative finding); the hull was scrapped in 1939 and no surviving structure exists to survey.
