    Finding type

    Finding
Adjudicated asbestos documentation for this hull's builder: Portland shipyard carpenter James R. McAllister died 22 September 2002 of pleural mesothelioma caused by asbestos exposure during 1956-1960 employment at three shipyards, including Albina Engine & Machine (his employer through 1957). All parties stipulated that his death was due to mesothelioma caused by asbestos exposure in covered shipyard employment, and that any level of exposure can cause mesothelioma. On second remand the ALJ found Albina was the last employer to expose decedent to asbestos (noting decedent did essentially identical work for Albina as at WISCO, which admitted exposure, and that Albina failed to show absence of exposure); the Benefits Review Board affirmed. The Ninth Circuit granted Albina's petition and reassigned liability to Lockheed under a sequential last-employer burden analysis - a liability-allocation ruling on a stipulated exposure record, not a finding that no asbestos exposure occurred at Albina.

    Limitations
Yard-level documentation, not a hull record: documents asbestos exposure of a carpenter AT THE BUILDER'S YARD in 1956-57 - post-dating this hull's Jan-Mar 1944 construction by twelve years; LCI(L)-1015 is not named and no vessel construction is at issue. Disposition described exactly per litigation-stage discipline: exposure findings stipulated and ALJ-level; final appellate disposition is a last-employer allocation to Lockheed, not a merits finding of non-exposure at Albina. Does not establish materials aboard this hull or any individual exposure aboard her.

    Finding
A diesel-powered landing craft built in early 1944 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era, and her builder is an adjudicated asbestos-exposure site. Era-standard asbestos applications aboard a diesel amphibious craft of this type and period were: engine and exhaust-system lagging (diesel exhaust/muffler insulation), gaskets, valve packing, and electrical insulation. As a diesel vessel she carried no steam plant - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply; her austere infantry-carrying configuration also means less accommodation finish than a ship, but the confined engine-space exposure dynamic applies.

CourtListener partial: exact-string '"LCI(L)-1015"' returned zero opinions and zero dockets; variant-name queries were blocked by the fleet pacing limiter (logged as blocked, not a negative result).
