NavSource is a curated secondary archive; this page's history derives from Turner Publishing's USS LCI Vol. II (1995) and official photo captions. Decommissioning, striking, and post-USAF dates are not given ('date unknown'); no primary record is linked for the transfer date beyond the 1951 photo documentation. Finding
The Flotilla 22 roster lists LCI(L)-1032 (and -1033) among the flotilla's 36 ships. The history records that after 15 August 1945 the flotilla broke up and 'the 433, 434, 435, 436, 518, 519, 445, 446, 776, 777, 1032 and 1033 were assigned to Commander Yangtze Patrol Force.' It describes the flotilla's Lingayen Gulf operation (arrival 9 January 1945, smoke-making duty on the gulf's outer edge) and subsequent Philippine landings collectively.

    Limitations
A veteran's postwar memoir hosted on NavSource - firsthand but unofficial, written for reunion readership. Flotilla actions are narrated collectively; no action is attributed to hull 1032 specifically beyond the documented campaign list and the Yangtze Patrol Force assignment. Does not address asbestos.

Photo captions document the two events only. Finding
NARA holds deck logs for USS LCI(L)-1032 covering 8/4/1944 - 12/31/1945 (per NARA deck-log inventory). The logs are not among the digitized holdings listed on NARA's 'Navy Deck Logs Available in the National Archives Catalog' page (checked 2026-09-29); they reside in RG 24 at Archives II, College Park.

    Limitations
Log coverage endpoints are not commissioning or decommissioning dates (per batch instruction); the 8/4/1944 start coincides with the documented commissioning date, and the 12/31/1945 end postdates the vessel's China service period. Log contents (movements, locations, events) are unexamined - an open archival lead, not an asbestos record.

    Finding
In a Longshore and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act death-benefits claim (decided 30 December 2008), the Benefits Review Board affirmed the ALJ's finding that Albina Engine and Machine - the yard that built LCI(L)-1032 - was the 'responsible employer': the decedent, a shipyard carpenter who died of pleural mesothelioma in September 2002, was last exposed to asbestos at Albina Engine's Portland facility (his Albina employment ended 1957). The Board stated 'the evidence of asbestos exposure at Albina is not as strong as at WISCO' but affirmed that Lockheed had established no exposure, leaving Albina Engine liable.

Portland-area shipyard workers, 1956-1960 employment period
    Limitations
Yard-level adjudication, not a vessel finding: no ship is named, and the decedent's Albina employment (1956-57) postdates this hull's 1944 construction by about 12 years. It documents that asbestos exposure at the Albina yard was adjudicated and affirmed at the merits level in a later era - context for the builder's asbestos environment only. Establishes nothing about asbestos aboard LCI(L)-1032.

HAER OR-180 documents the LCI-351 class design (158'5.5 in x 23'3 in, 387 tons loaded, eight GM 6-71 diesels, welded 1/4-in steel plate, cylindrical pilothouse on post-June-1944 hulls) and identifies LCI(L)-713 as the last example in original configuration. HAER AK-52 documents sister hull LCI(L)-653's construction and post-Navy Alaska service. Full-text review of both reports finds no asbestos or hazardous-material content - the class records document design and history only.

Class-design federal documentation for sister hulls, not for 1032. The absence of asbestos analysis in the HAER reports is itself reported; neither report supports or refutes asbestos content aboard any LCI(L). Checked for asbestos content and found none.

    Limitations
Program-level documentation; supports era context only, not any fact specific to this hull. Small diesel landing craft carried far less insulation than steam-plant vessels; the report does not itemize LCI(L)-type applications. Finding
No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or docketed case naming USS LCI(L)-1032 was found in the public sources searched. CourtListener returned zero opinions and zero dockets for the hull ('LCI(L)-1032', 'LCI-1032', type=o and type=r, 2026-09-29); a 'landing craft' asbestos opinion sweep surfaced two incidental, non-qualifying hits. The only 'asbestos aboard LCI' material on the open web is law-firm marketing content asserting asbestos without primary sourcing - excluded by source policy.

    Limitations
Absence of a located public record does not prove absence of asbestos aboard - era-standard materials on a 1944 combatant make asbestos plausible, but it is not ship-proven. The NARA deck logs (8/4/1944-12/31/1945) are undigitized and unexamined; shipyard work packages and USAF-era records are additional open leads. Does not establish or defeat any claim of exposure or legal eligibility.
