- NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - its history credits Turner Publishing's USS LCI Vol. II (1995). Milestones corroborated by uboat.net and the navalmarinearchive build table; the Polloc Harbor operation is independently confirmed by the ship's own NARA-held action report (ev-02). Award list is NavSource/Turner-sourced; the Salvage-Unit NUC existence and period are corroborated by NHHC DANFS (Chickasaw III entry, ev-07) but hull-level award-list verification is open. - The ship's own action report (CONFIDENTIAL, declassified): USS LCI(L) 1033, Task Unit 78.2.3, carried 178 troops and 7 Army officers - a segment of the 24th U.S. Army Infantry Division including a 15-man medical unit - from White Beach, Mindoro (loaded 13 April 1945) to Polloc Harbor, Mindanao, under Operation Plan 9-45. Cruising disposition with LCI(L) 614 (guide), LCI(L) 689 starboard abeam, LCI(L) 434 port abeam. Entered Polloc Harbor 0625 on 17 April; beached Red Beach 1335, shallow water halting her ~50 yards from the beach proper; troops disembarked by small boats 1347; unable to retract on slack tide (1432 attempts failed); retracted 2015. 'NO ORDNANCE EQUIPMENT WAS USED AND NO AMMUNITION FIRED. THERE WAS NO BATTLE DAMAGE TO THE LCI(L) 1033 AND NONE WAS INFLICTED ON THE ENEMY. THERE WERE NO CASUALTIES.' Signed John H. - NARA records Navy deck logs for LCI(L)-1033 covering 11 August 1944 - 30 June 1945 (commissioning through the end of the war-zone deployment): the day-by-day positional, weather, personnel, and material-casualty record of the hull for that interval. Eagle-Picher (D. Me., No. 83-0224-P) on the proposition that asbestosis was a recognized substantial occupational health risk to shipyard workers. Era-standard applications aboard a 1944 diesel landing craft were diesel-exhaust lagging, machinery/engine-room insulation, gaskets, valve packing, and electrical insulation - with insulation compounds in accommodation and control spaces. As a diesel craft she carried no boilers or steam plant - the boiler/turbine lagging pathway of steam vessels does not apply.
