- Documented for this hull: laid down 24 February 1944 at Defoe Shipbuilding, Bay City, MI; launched 21 March 1944; commissioned USS LCI(L)-1054 31 March 1944, LTjg W. H. Spicer USNR in command (May 1945). WWII assignment: LCI Flotilla Nineteen (LCDR E. C. Folger), LCI Group Fifty-Seven (LCDR A. J. Ormstom [sic]), LCI Division One Hundred Thirteen. Awards: China Service Medal (extended), American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal (Asia clasp) - occupation windows 1-5 November 1945 and 8-16 December 1946, China service 21 December 1945 - 1 September 1947. Post-war: reassigned to US Trust Territories, homeported Kwajalein Atoll circa 1947-48; participated in the first three atomic tests at Eniwetok; returned to US for decommissioning at Mare Island Naval Shipyard 1949; stricken date unknown; sold 3 September 1949, fate unknown. Specs: 246t light/419t loaded, 158'5.5", 23'3" beam, 16 kts max, 4 officers + 24 enlisted, troop capacity 6 officers + 182 enlisted, five single 20mm mounts, 8 x GM 6-71 diesels (NavSource transcription '6051 series 71') on twin variable-pitch propellers, 2,320 shp.

- Defoe construction trades (1944); ship's company 4 officers + 24 enlisted; up to ~188 embarked troops (6 officers + 182 enlisted)
- Limitations
- NavSource is a volunteer secondary compilation, not a primary registry - milestone dates track official records but its WWII flotilla assignment (Flotilla 19 / Group 57 / Division 113) conflicts with the contemporaneous NHHC Pacific Fleet organization chart (Flotilla 6 / Group 18 / Division 35, same group commander Ormston; see ev-02 and gaps). 'In command (May 1945)' qualifies the commissioning-officer attribution to a date, not the full tour. The 'first three atomic tests at Eniwetok' summary line is corroborated and specified by DNA-TR-83-13 (ev-04). Contains no asbestos content.

- Custody/coverage record only: the endpoints are log-coverage dates, not commissioning or decommissioning evidence (the 31 March 1944 start coincides with the documented commissioning date; the June 1945 end truncates while the ship remained in service to 1949 - later logs sit outside this 1801-1947-era list's coverage shown, or in the post-1947 deck-log series). - Finding type
- gov_survey
- Finding
- This hull is documented by name in the official dose reconstruction for Operation SANDSTONE, the first test series at Enewetak Atoll (shots X-RAY ~15 April, YOKE ~1 May, ZEBRA ~15 May 1948 local). LCI(L)-1054's crew of 22 is counted in the Task Unit 7.3.7 boat-pool roster (Table I-2); the report's movement narrative lists LCI-1054 among the nine vessels present at Enewetak for all three shots. Per the report she evacuated the lagoon the day before each shot to an area a minimum of 17 miles south/southeast of the shot island, returned several hours after each detonation to the southern anchorage off Enewetak and Parry Islands, and between shots provided transportation and services (fuel, oil, water) to units in the northern anchorage while remaining in the lagoon. She departed Enewetak 24 May 1948 with USS Pasig (AW-3) and LCI(L)-1090 for Pearl Harbor. The report's category-grouped reconstruction assigns ships including LCI-1054 a calculated film-badge dose of 33 mrem through 31 May 1948 (Table 3-1), best-estimate 0.03 rem / upper bound 0.07 rem (Table 6-1).

- Finding
- On 8 May 1945 Task Unit 94.19.17 - USS LCI(L)-1054, USS LCI(L)-1062, and USS Marsh (DE-699) - departed Saipan on an expedition of the Northern Marianas in search of Japanese holdouts and to gather intelligence on islands relative to ditching and survival of aircraft personnel returning from bombing missions. Embarked were two platoons of the 24th Infantry Division, seven air-sea rescue/escape-and-evasion representatives of the Army Air Forces, a language and military government officer, three native interpreters, and one cameraman (SGT Louis Locantore, 11th Combat Camera Unit). The task unit returned to Saipan 24 May, having located Japanese on every island visited; 21 Japanese and Okinawan civilians and 62 natives were brought to Saipan for questioning and medical treatment. Shore parties disembarked at Agrihan Island around 1200 on 15 May per the mission report.

- Finding
- A steel diesel-powered landing craft built at a U.S. contract yard in 1944 sits inside the Navy's documented asbestos-use era. Era-standard applications aboard a diesel landing craft of this type and period were limited but real: exhaust-system lagging around the eight GM diesels and their mufflers/uptakes, flange and machinery gaskets, valve packing, electrical insulation, and brake linings on winches and the anchor windlass. As an austere amphibious landing craft she carried far less installed insulation than steam combatants, and with no steam plant the boiler/turbine lagging pathway does not apply at all.

- No qualifying ship-specific asbestos record located: no asbestos survey, abatement contract, hazmat disclosure, or verified litigation naming USS LCI(L)-1054 was found in the public sources searched. CourtListener opinion search on the exact designation "LCI(L)-1054" returned zero results; variant spellings (LCI-1054, LCI(L) 1054) and the docket index remained unsearched at report time due to fleet request pacing - logged as blocked/partial in the search ledger, not as a full negative. Secondary web sweeps surfaced no qualifying case; 'asbestos aboard' material for this hull type exists only as law-firm marketing content, excluded by source policy.
